Recently, production according to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) has been receiving attention from ministries, sectors and localities to create safe products to serve market demand. Up to now, Thanh Hoa has had thousands of hectares of crops produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP processes with a variety of agricultural products such as rice, vegetables, fruit trees, etc.

In the rice production fields of Thieu Phuc commune (Thieu Hoa), Thieu Phuc agricultural service cooperative and local people have put into large-scale production of Q5 rice variety according to VietGAP standards for many years. Mr. Trinh Tat Doi, one of the households with a large production area in Hoach Phuc village, said: "Currently, the production process according to VietGAP standards is quite familiar to the people; we know how to manage the fields such as recording production diaries, using the right type of fertilizer at the right time, and no longer littering pesticide bottles in the fields... In particular, the cooperative has applied drone technology to the pesticide spraying stage to help save labor costs and protect health". Therefore, the economic efficiency is 1.3 times higher than the old rice variety; the rice product has large, fragrant, and sticky grains, so it is also more favorable in attracting businesses to purchase the product".
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, Director of Thieu Phuc Agricultural Service Cooperative: “The farming method according to VietGAP standards has contributed to restoring the ecosystem in the fields and ensuring the health of producers. In addition, through the model, it helps people change their awareness and old farming practices and grasp the rice production process according to VietGAP, creating safe and quality products, and at the same time using fertilizers and pesticides in rice production scientifically”. Therefore, not only in Thieu Hoa, the rice production area according to VietGAP standards is increasingly expanding in the province, such as the districts: Quang Xuong, Hoang Hoa, Ha Trung, Tho Xuan...
In reality, the advantage of agricultural products produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP processes is that, in addition to businesses, some cooperatives and people have also focused on applying science and technology, investing in building facilities for cultivation and farming according to VietGAP standards, thereby creating advantages in consumption channels as well as attracting many businesses to cooperate in production and product consumption. Especially, products that meet these certifications will have many advantages in price as well as competitiveness on the journey to conquer the market.
Van Du Town (Thach Thanh) is known for many large-scale fruit farms, applying science and technology, modern machinery to improve production efficiency. Mr. Nguyen Van Chung, owner of a large-scale fruit farm here, said: Currently, the products of yellow-heart oranges and green-skin grapefruit at the farm have achieved GlobalGAP certification. Production according to this standard not only helps plants grow and develop well, limit pests and diseases, but also increases productivity, product quality, limits environmental pollution, and is safe for producers. In addition to the technical requirements of GlobalGAP such as using composted organic fertilizers, reducing chemical fertilizers and limiting the use of pesticides, fully recording field diaries, safe quarantine times... farm owners must invest in installing modern sprinkler irrigation systems, building warehouses, sinks for post-harvest preservation...
Currently, the whole province has more than 480 hectares of fruit trees certified by VietGAP, but to achieve GlobalGAP standards, there are still many limitations due to high production costs, human resources for consulting and guiding the application of GlobalGAP standards are lacking in both quantity and quality....
Although production according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards brings many benefits to producers, there are still many limitations due to the fact that in some localities the production area is still small and fragmented; production costs are high; farmers' qualifications are limited, along with the reluctance to change farming practices... In addition, the consumption of products certified according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards faces many difficulties due to limited consumer awareness; the product chain still goes through many intermediaries, leading to difficulties in managing food safety as well as traceability.
However, with the current trend of safe agricultural production, localities have been promoting propaganda and encouraging people to continue to improve their qualifications and expand production areas according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards in accordance with actual conditions. In addition, strengthening training for local officials to advise and guide people in applying VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; planning safe production areas; building production and supply chain models of certified products, production and consumption linkage models, in which enterprises are the core. There should be policies to support and encourage people to produce safe agriculture, support funding for production registration according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards...
