At the meetings, President Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated the active contributions of the Kyushu - Vietnam Friendship Association and the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association to promoting the relationship between the two countries; affirmed that this is a good time to strengthen the Vietnam - Japan friendship and cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the world, in the fields of science and technology, investment, education, and youth exchange.

The President highly appreciated the association's active contributions and support in promoting cooperation between the Kyushu region and Vietnam, especially the study tour program to Vietnam, which has become a typical activity of the friendly exchange and cooperation between Vietnam and the Kyushu region. The President also suggested that the association continue to support localities in the Kyushu region and other sectors to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with localities in Vietnam; promote human resource cooperation; actively organize more cultural and people-to-people exchanges, especially exchanges between the young generations of the two countries through the study tour program, promote cooperation with localities whose leaders participated in this high-level delegation such as Vinh Long, Can Tho, Binh Thuan; support the community of about 55,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in the Kyushu region. Chairman of the Kyushu - Vietnam Friendship Association Hoshino Hiroshi said that the association was established in 2008, before Vietnam established the Vietnamese Consulate General in Fukuoka. In recent times, the association has actively implemented many activities to promote cooperation with Vietnam such as supporting Vietnamese students in Japan, organizing study tours for Japanese high school students to Vietnam; promoting investment of Japanese enterprises in Vietnam through the Kyushu Promotion Center established in 2019, promoting tourism cooperation through opening direct flights from Fukuoka to many provinces and cities in Vietnam. Mr. Hoshino Hiroshi promised the President that he would make more efforts to promote cooperation between the Kyushu region and Vietnam; support the Vietnamese community in the region to integrate into the local community. At the same time, he affirmed that he would make efforts to promote the resumption of study tours after the Covid-19 pandemic; actively participate in and support the activities of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka. At the meeting with the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association, the President highly appreciated the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association, although it was only established in May 2023, it has made many contributions to the scientific development of Vietnam, as well as the scientific and technological cooperation between Vietnam and Japan. The President suggested that the association promote the expansion of the network connecting experts and cooperation between research institutions of the two countries, promote cooperation in areas where Japan has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as digital technology, green technology, healthcare, semiconductors, etc., and support the training and fostering of Vietnamese graduate students studying and researching at universities and research institutes in Japan to become the core human resources in science and technology of Vietnam in the future. The President also suggested that Hiroshima University strengthen its links with Vietnamese universities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang in the field of semiconductors, and universities in the Mekong Delta region to respond to climate change, drought, and saltwater intrusion. Professor Ochi Mitsuo, Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Experts Association and Rector of Hiroshima University, said that the university has close relations with Vietnam through training 65 international students studying at the university, connecting with Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry in research on responding to rising sea levels, climate change, green transformation, healthcare, etc.; affirming the desire to promote cooperation in the fields of education and training, human resources and experts in the fields of smart cities, green transformation, semiconductors, etc.

Promote cooperation with universities

On the same day, the President visited Kyushu University and had a talk with outstanding Vietnamese students of the school. Kyushu University is one of the top 5 public universities in Japan with a history of more than 110 years, with many leading research departments funded annually by the Japanese government. There are currently 53 Vietnamese masters and doctoral students studying at the school; 3 Vietnamese people directly teaching, including 1 associate professor, 2 doctors, and assistant professors. The President visited the International Research Center for Hydrogen Energy at Kyushu University. This is one of the world's leading facilities for hydrogen energy. This center specializes in implementing key projects, collaborating with many large Japanese companies to deploy hydrogen research projects. Currently, Kyushu University has built a miniature "Hydrogen Society" model at Ito campus - one of the first models of "Hydrogen Society" in Japan, with many modern equipment, machinery and infrastructure in the field of hydrogen. Dr. Pham Hung Cuong is the only Vietnamese working and researching at the center. During the meeting with Kyushu University President Ishibashi Tatsuro and the school's leaders and Vietnamese students studying here, the President highly appreciated the achievements and development orientation of Kyushu University, commensurate with the reputation, prestige and historical tradition of more than 110 years of the school. The President welcomed Kyushu University's plan to expand training and receive Vietnamese international students to study at the school through cooperation programs with Vietnamese educational and training institutions. At the same time, he suggested that the school promote cooperation with universities and localities in Vietnam in training and improving the quality of human resources for Vietnam. Speaking to Vietnamese students at Kyushu University, after listening to their stories about life, study and desire to contribute to the country and Vietnam-Japan relations, the President expressed his delight at the outstanding achievements in study and research of Vietnamese students. The President asked the students to continue to strive to improve their knowledge and experience, unite, support and care for each other, and build a strong Vietnamese community in Japan, thereby becoming a bridge for Vietnam-Japan relations.

President successfully concludes official visit to Japan

On the evening of November 30, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived at Noi Bai International Airport, successfully concluding an official visit to Japan from November 27 to 30 at the invitation of the State of Japan. During the visit, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and his wife hosted a welcoming ceremony and solemnly hosted President Vo Van Thuong and his wife Phan Thi Thanh Tam. The two leaders led high-ranking delegations of the two countries to hold talks, assessing the achievements in the 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations and proposing stronger cooperation directions in the coming time. After the talks, the two leaders issued a Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam-Japan relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the world; and witnessed the signing of cooperation documents between ministries and branches of the two countries. The President and his wife met with the Emperor and Empress of Japan; attended the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan; received leaders of several political parties and some Japanese politicians. The President had meetings with the President of the Senate and the President of the House of Representatives of Japan. In particular, the President visited and delivered a policy speech at the Japanese National Assembly, the oldest legislative body in Asia. In Tokyo, the President spent time meeting and talking with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan; met with representatives of generations of Vietnamese people in Japan who have contributed to the relationship between the two countries; received the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance and attended the Vovinam and Japanese martial arts exchange program. The President and his wife had a friendly meeting and had breakfast with Japanese families who had welcomed Vietnamese youth through Vietnam-Japan youth exchange programs. Fukuoka was the final destination of the President's visit.
