Nhat Tan peach growers make efforts to "revive" peach gardens after Tet.
Right after the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, people in Nhat Tan peach blossom village (Tay Ho district) urgently collected beautiful trees to replant, care for, and prune, in preparation for the next year's Tet season.
Many gardeners have almost completed replanting, pruning and adding good soil to provide nutrients for better plant growth.
Peach trees rented by customers or discarded after Tet are selected by gardeners, transported to the garden, waiting for the day of "revival" and blooming after another year.
A peach farmer said: "The process of pruning the branches and leaves of the tree is extremely important, helping not to waste nutrients when growing the tree, so that the new tree will have new, plumper branches and more buds. For peach trees with only one trunk, just cut off all the branches, leaving the base of the branch 5 - 7cm from the main trunk."
"During the recent storm, my family also lost half of the peach garden, and this year the economy is also difficult so business is worse," this person added.
Peach branches are neatly trimmed by people, waiting for them to sprout, grow and develop.
"After Tet is the time when trees grow the most, so we have to urgently take care of the trees, so that from now until next Tet we only need to water and provide more nutrients to help the trees grow quickly," said gardener Dung Tuyet.
After the peach trees have their branches cut off, they will be treated with scar healing cream and fertilized with soil to provide additional nutrients.
After composting the soil, the peach trees will be watered a lot so that the soil can quickly adhere to the roots, helping the tree grow faster.
After being cut off, if the peach branches still have many buds or beautiful flowers, they will be gathered into bunches of peach chips, sold for 15,000 - 30,000 VND/bunch. Many people like to buy this type of flower to enjoy after Tet or to worship on the full moon day of the first lunar month.
After pruning, the peach branches will be cleaned up, piled up and burned by the gardener.
The atmosphere of hard work after Tet in Nhat Tan peach village. Most gardeners have to hire seasonal workers for 3-4 days at prices ranging from 300,000 - 400,000 VND/day.
Some peach branches are still kept by gardeners to sell until the end of January, serving customers who want to enjoy the flowers late.
Some customers still take the time to go to the garden to choose peach branches to bring home to display.
Nearby, kumquat growers in Tu Lien village are also busy restoring kumquat trees for next year's crop.
