Early admission still requires registration of application to the system

Discussing this concern, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) - affirmed: In case of early admission by early admission methods, it is still necessary to register the application on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system from July 18 to before 5:00 p.m. on July 30.

During this period, candidates can register an unlimited number of wishes, including early admission wishes and wishes using high school graduation exam results. After the above period, the system will close, candidates will not be able to add or adjust wishes anymore.

Ms. Thuy said that last year, she also had to deal with cases that had been accepted early and were confident in traveling, until they knew they needed to register on the system, but the deadline had passed.

There are many questions related to how to rank your preferences. Many parents are concerned that if their child has been admitted early, should they put their preference in the number 1 position? If they put it later, will they miss out on that opportunity?

A father who came with his son to the consultation was concerned that his son wanted to put his favorite choice number 1, but had little chance of not being accepted. He wanted his son to put the choice with the highest chance of being accepted number 1 because he was afraid that the schools would prioritize admitting all the first choice before admitting the other choices.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy affirmed: The order of wishes only has meaning for candidates. Because the system will consider from top to bottom, candidates who pass a wish will stop at that wish, not considering further. Therefore, if a candidate puts the wish that has passed at the end but all the wishes above fail, the system will still determine that the candidate passed this wish.

No need to register method, combination

Many parents are concerned about "not being able to find the registration method and admission combination on the system".

Regarding this, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy affirmed that when registering on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system, candidates only need to pay attention to the training industry and the school. However, candidates will have to update the system with data that candidates have related to the admission (school report card scores, foreign language certificates, international competency certificates, competency assessment of Hanoi National University, thinking assessment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology...). The software will automatically select the method and combination that is most beneficial for candidates to consider for admission.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, head of the admissions and career guidance department (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), also affirmed that candidates wishing to enter Hanoi University of Science and Technology with a thinking assessment score do not need to confirm their admission with the thinking assessment score, but the system will help candidates choose, ensuring their rights.

Some parents have questioned the value of the IELTS certificate at this time, in case candidates have not used the certificate for early admission. Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Hien - Head of the Training Management Department of Foreign Trade University - said: Depending on the regulations of each school, it is still possible to consider admission by combining international language certificates such as IELTS with a combination of high school graduation exam scores.

In addition, schools can also consider admission based on exam scores. For foreign language combinations, schools may allow candidates to use IELTS certificates to convert to replace the foreign language exam in the admission combination with foreign languages. The conversion will depend on each school's regulations.

Ms. Hien also said that this year, some schools will set the graduation score threshold for the exam subjects in accordance with the admission combination that candidates have registered for by the early admission method (considering the transcript score). For example, the Foreign Trade University has a score threshold of 24. In this case, candidates can also use the IELTS certificate to replace the foreign language exam score to reach the school's prescribed threshold.

If I fail this year, how will I be admitted next year?

This is also a concern that many candidates sent questions to experts at the consultation session. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy reiterated information previously confirmed by the Ministry of Education and Training: Candidates who are 12th graders this year can still take the 2025 high school graduation exam to graduate or use the exam results to apply for university and college admission. In principle, candidates will take the exam according to the program they study.

However, Ms. Thuy also advised candidates to try to make a wise choice to register for admission and be admitted this year. Because next year, the number of candidates taking the exam under the 2006 General Education Program will not be many and training institutions may not reserve many quotas for this group, so students may face greater competition than this year.

Ms. Thuy also reminded candidates that in recent years, most large training institutions will have filled their enrollment quotas in the first round of admission, leaving few options for candidates to participate in additional admission. Therefore, registering for admission in the first round according to the schedule stated above is very important.

Worry about "half-way points"

Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc (Phu Tho) said that her child had just taken the D01 exam and got 25.5 points, but after knowing the score, the whole family was worried because all previous plans were turned upside down. Initially, the family was looking for her child to study economics at a top school, but Ms. Cuc said that with the above score, the path to a top economics school was very "narrow", lower than the standard score of previous years.

"For candidates with high scores, it is easy to set wishes, but for those with "half-baked scores" like my child, it is difficult, so my child and I came to the festival to find the best wishes for our abilities and interests," said Ms. Cuc.
