In his congratulatory letter, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong acknowledged and commended Hanoi National University for its achievements in recent times, especially since moving its headquarters to the new urban area in Hoa Lac.
“After 30 years of striving to build and develop, Hanoi National University has achieved outstanding achievements and truly become a large multidisciplinary training and scientific research center, holding a particularly important leading position in the country, playing a core and leading role in the Vietnamese higher education system,” wrote General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in a letter.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Hanoi National University Le Quan recalled the milestone of December 1993, when Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet signed Decree No. 97 to establish Hanoi National University on the basis of rearranging and reorganizing a number of universities and scientific research institutes in the Hanoi area.

Hanoi National University was established with the vision and expectation of generations of Party and State leaders for the country's largest university of international stature. The University's mission is to train high-quality, highly qualified human resources, foster talents; conduct scientific research, develop technology and transfer multidisciplinary and multi-field knowledge.
After 30 years of development, Hanoi National University currently has more than 5,000 staff. The proportion of lecturers with doctoral degrees is 62% (twice as high as the average rate of universities nationwide); the ratio of professors/associate professors is 5 times higher than the national average.
From having only more than 50 training majors, up to now, Hanoi National University is implementing 190 undergraduate training programs, 198 master's training programs, and 118 doctoral training programs.
The training scale in the first years of establishment was only about 20,000 full-time students and 50 graduate students. Up to now, the whole school has 71,000 students. In the past 30 years, there have been about 280,000 graduates, including 230,000 bachelors, 43,000 masters and nearly 3,000 doctors.
The model of training excellent students of specialized high schools under Hanoi National University has become a leading model in recent years. In 2023 alone, the number of gold medals won by Hanoi National University accounted for 50% of the total number of gold medals in the country.
In 2018, Hanoi National University was also ranked among the top 1,000 universities in the world for the first time and is currently constantly developing, consolidating and maintaining its ranking position.
In the coming time, Hanoi National University strives to become an advanced university in the region and Asia, top 200 in the world by 2045. The unit strives to have a training scale of 25,000 students by 2025 and towards 2030 to have 80,000 students and about 10,000 lecturers and staff.

Recognizing and praising the achievements of Hanoi National University, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien emphasized that generations of lecturers, students and pupils of the university have constantly strived, overcome many difficulties and challenges, and achieved admirable and proud results. The university has become a prestigious training institution in the country and the region, gradually establishing its position in the international arena.
"The 30-year achievement of implementing the multidisciplinary and multi-field university model has contributed to further enhancing the glorious 117-year tradition, making worthy contributions to the cause of national construction and defense," said Mr. Do Van Chien.
From there, Mr. Chien suggested that Hanoi National University better implement the Resolution of the 8th Central Conference and the Party's policies and guidelines, and devote efforts to developing and submitting to the Government for consideration and approval solutions, mechanisms and resources to promote all potentials of the unit.
The school needs to focus on building the Hanoi National University urban area in Hoa Lac to become a source of pride, a symbol of intelligence, a source of inspiration for learning, research, creativity and development cooperation. At the same time, build Hanoi National University into a prestigious educational and training institution domestically and internationally, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front assigned the task.
