On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, this morning, July 26, in Phuong Ngan village, Trieu Long commune, Trieu Phong district, the Veterans' Tradition Association of Regiment 27, Quang Tri Front B5, Thien Son Media Joint Stock Company coordinated with Trieu Long commune to organize the 3rd "Candle of Gratitude" program. Hero of the People's Armed Forces, former Deputy Minister of National Defense, former Commander of Regiment 27, Senior Lieutenant General, Academician, Doctor Nguyen Huy Hieu and nearly 200 veterans, relatives of martyrs of Regiment 27 and a large number of people of Trieu Long commune attended.

Participating in the battle on the Quang Tri battlefield from 1968 to 1973, Regiment 27, Division 320B (now Division 390), Corps 1 (now Corps 12) fought hundreds of battles and achieved many outstanding feats.
In particular, during the 1972 strategic offensive, Regiment 27 crushed the enemy's defense line at heights 544, 322, and 288 in Northern Quang Tri, creating conditions for our army to liberate Quang Tri. During this campaign, Regiment 27 destroyed more than 5,000 enemies, captured 860, and supported the people of Trieu Phong and Hai Lang districts to rise up and liberate their homeland.
With outstanding achievements, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam awarded the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces to Regiment 27, Company 14 of Regiment 27; and awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Deputy Commander of Regiment 27 Nguyen Huy Hieu.
To achieve those glorious feats, nearly 2,500 martyrs of Regiment 27 remained forever with the mountains and rivers of Quang Tri, and to this day there are still more than 1,800 martyrs whose remains have not been found.

With the motto that wherever there are martyrs of Regiment 27 resting, there will be activities to honor comrades of the Veterans' Tradition Association of Regiment 27, Front B5 Quang Tri, from 2022, veteran Nguyen Van A has had the initiative to organize the program "Candle of Gratitude" on War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27) every year to give gifts to those who have contributed and offer incense to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the Fatherland at the temple of 2,500 martyrs of Regiment 27 in Phuong Ngan village, Trieu Long commune.

At the 3rd “Candle of Gratitude” program, the Veterans’ Tradition Association of Regiment 27, Quang Tri Front B5 presented 250 gifts to meritorious people, each worth 500,000 VND; built 2 incense burners at the Martyrs’ Cemetery of Quang Tri town and the Temple of 2,500 Martyrs of Regiment 27 with a total amount of 130 million VND; cast the Great Bell at the Temple of 2,500 Martyrs of Regiment 27; held a “commemoration ceremony” for 3,000 martyrs and offered incense at the Temple of 2,500 Martyrs of Regiment 27, Martyrs’ Cemetery of Trieu Long commune, Martyrs’ Cemetery of Quang Tri town, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, National Martyrs’ Cemetery of Road 9; released flower lanterns on Thach Han River and other gratitude activities with a total cost of more than 1 billion VND.

Up to now, after 3 times of organization, the program "Candle of Gratitude" has presented nearly 1,500 gifts to people with revolutionary contributions, upgraded 6 gratitude houses; repaired the Temple of 2,500 martyrs of Regiment 27 and many other meaningful gratitude activities with a total amount of more than 2 billion VND.
