On May 11, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information - Ministry of Information and Communications, VnExpress Newspaper coordinated with the Vietnam Game Alliance and FPT Online Services Joint Stock Company to organize Vietnam Game Festival - Vietnam GameVerse 2024. The event lasts until May 12.
This year, one of the important activities to open the program is the Vietnam Game Forum 2024 with the theme "The billion-dollar journey of the Vietnamese game industry".
At the forum, Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, expected that by 2030, the gaming industry in Vietnam could reach 1 billion USD.
To achieve that result, Mr. Le Quang Tu Do said that in 2023, the Ministry of Information and Communications became the direct focal point, together with the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information and units to build the first foundation of training in the gaming industry.
Specifically, the Ministry of Information and Communications has worked with the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology to train university-level game majors and with VTC Corporation to train vocational skills. This helps the market have both a workforce of professionals and a workforce of regular engineers.
In addition, building a foundation for tax policies for the gaming industry. Previously, the Government and many people believed that gaming was an industry that needed to be restricted, so they proposed a policy of including it in the list of industries subject to special consumption tax to limit the development of the gaming industry.
Mr. Le Quang Tu Do spoke at the forum.
However, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information has convinced the Government that the gaming industry is an industry that needs to be cherished, nurtured and given incentives to develop as expected without restrictions.
Accordingly, the Government has agreed to not only remove the gaming industry from the list of industries subject to special consumption tax, but also assign the Ministry of Information and Communications to develop a strategy for the gaming industry, including other tax incentives.
At the same time, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information has tried to connect internally and externally, helping foreign investors such as Meta, Google, TikTok... see the potential of the Vietnamese game market, through meeting with domestic game companies, attending events so that they can know how Vietnamese human resources write games and apps.
"The last thing is to change society's prejudice about the gaming industry, through media campaigns to show that games are not addictive, not just for playing. Games can also bring pride like sports competitions, bring glory to the country, and are an industry that generates income and brings foreign currency from abroad. Besides, we have solutions to limit the negative aspects of games" - Mr. Le Quang Tu Do emphasized.
Mr. La Xuan Thang - Director of Online Game Publishing, VNGGames - said that Vietnam has a fast development speed of the game industry but must also admit that the life cycle of products is relatively short, there are no world-class products.
On the positive side, Mr. Thang said this is understandable. When there is enough accumulation in quantity, it will lead to a change in quality. "It is impossible for the Vietnamese gaming industry to suddenly have world-class giants like Riot and Tencent. We cannot be hasty" - Mr. Thang acknowledged.
At the event, the game booths were packed with people coming to experience and receive gifts, creating an extremely exciting atmosphere.
