On the first day of the new year of Giap Thin 2024, import and export activities of goods and immigration across the border at Lao Cai border gate took place quite bustlingly and smoothly because the functional forces on both sides of the border had prepared the best conditions for these activities.
Early in the morning of the first day of Tet, import and export shipments were cleared through Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II. The authorities at the border gate presented flowers to the first drivers of the two countries to enter the new year, with the hope of a smooth trade year.
Mr. Pham Minh Hieu, representative of An Nguyen Import-Export Company Limited, said that the goods exported here are mainly fruits from the southern provinces such as watermelon, dragon fruit, durian, jackfruit... In order to clear customs on the first day of the new year, many long-distance drivers have to celebrate New Year's Eve in the middle of the road or in the cargo gathering areas near the border gate.
At the Lao Cai International Border Gate, as soon as the gate opened, both the exit and entry gates saw the first Vietnamese and Chinese citizens come to complete procedures. In particular, there were also large tour groups lining up to travel across the border for Spring.
According to tradition, the representative of the Border Guard Station gave gifts and lucky money to the first two citizens to set foot at the immigration counter. On the first morning of the new year, at Lao Cai International Border Gate, a friendship ceremony was also held between the border management forces of Vietnam and China. In the middle of the Ho Kieu II border bridge across the Nam Thi River, the two sides presented flowers and sent each other good wishes for the new year.
According to the Lao Cai Provincial Customs Department, 40 enterprises registered to open import-export declarations for the traditional Tet holiday of Giap Thin 2024, a sharp increase compared to previous years. The reason is that the border gates in Lang Son have stopped operating, so many fruit products have switched to being exported through Lao Cai border gate. The value of import-export, trading and exchange of goods through border gates in the area in January 2024 reached nearly 183 million USD.
Also in January 2024, the functional unit of Lao Cai province issued CO for more than 16,000 tons of goods, including dragon fruit, watermelon, banana, jackfruit, tapioca starch, dried cassava chips, cinnamon essential oil, durian, coffee beans, purple sweet potatoes with a value of 24 million USD. On average, about 300 import-export vehicles are cleared through the border every day. Currently, there are about 600 enterprises registered for import-export activities through Lao Cai border gate.
According to Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, the locality has set a target of 4.5 billion USD in import-export turnover through Lao Cai's border gates in 2024. To achieve this goal, from the beginning of 2024, Lao Cai province has directed sectors to continue to innovate, promote comprehensive digital transformation in border gate operations, thereby improving customs clearance efficiency, transparency of administrative procedures, and attracting import-export enterprises through Lao Cai border gates.
In addition, promote foreign affairs activities, effectively implement cooperation agreements between Vietnam and China in general and between Lao Cai and Yunnan in particular; build the Lao Cai-Hekou border gate model into a model pair of border gates on the Vietnam-China border.
