The Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh "triangle" has created a dynamic growth pole in the North of the country. On the journey to become the fourth growth pole, Thanh Hoa's processing and manufacturing industry has affirmed its position as a driving force and is opening up many expectations for the future!

Pillar of the economy
In Thanh Hoa's GRDP growth of 12.16% in 2024, the industrial sector contributes up to 7.37 percentage points. This is the result of effective production activities and open consumption markets of many key factories in the manufacturing and processing industry - a sector that accounts for nearly 90% of the added value of the entire industry.
After a successful general maintenance in late 2023, Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant has been operating at an average capacity exceeding 20% of its design. General Director of Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited
Kazutaka Yamato said: “Based on 4 solutions: innovating management; improving production and operation efficiency; restructuring financial work and improving the efficiency of commercial and business activities, the factory has operated stably and safely, with petroleum output meeting 40% of domestic market demand and successfully exporting 6 petrochemical products to the world.”
Also in 2024, the capacity of Thanh Hoa's processing and manufacturing industry was recognized with the success of many projects and bid packages with complex technical requirements and high expertise.
At PTSC Thanh Hoa Petroleum Technical Services Joint Stock Company (PTSC Thanh Hoa), after the success as one of the five main contractors to maintain Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant at the end of 2023, including high-tech equipment such as boilers, turbine generators, high-pressure pipelines, control valve systems, heat exchangers, electrical control equipment... In August 2024, PTSC Thanh Hoa completed the handover of a package of 30 wind power base pillars, with a total volume of 9,000 tons for the offshore wind power base fabrication and supply project of CHW2204 Project in Taiwan.
According to PTSC Thanh Hoa, to implement the project with design, production and acceptance according to strict international standards and processes, PTSC Thanh Hoa has made a preparation that can be called a "record" for investing in machinery, equipment and infrastructure to serve the project. That is 7.7 hectares of construction site invested; 4,500m2 of upgraded factory; 9 bridge and pier systems and construction Shelter system... The enterprise has mobilized the highest human resources of 300 experts, engineers and skilled workers, with 700,000 working hours and successfully implemented more than 420 large safe lifting codes.
“The success of the CHW2204 project is considered the “key” to open the door, marking a very important milestone to turn PTSC Thanh Hoa’s plans into reality in the near future. That is to become a technical service center associated with seaports serving industry, oil and gas and offshore renewable energy” - Director of PTSC Thanh Hoa Pham Hung Phuong, shared.
According to statistics from the industry and trade sector, in 2024, many industrial processing and manufacturing products will continue to affirm their key position in economic growth and budget contribution, such as: Electricity production increased by 18.8%; cement increased by 7.6%; gasoline increased by 31.5%; diesel increased by 37.4%; paraffin wax increased by 75.9%; benzene increased by 55.8%; solid sulfur increased by 30.7%; sports shoes increased by 27%; ready-made clothes increased by 19.1%; steel increased by 16.9%...
This is also the driving force for the industrial production index (IIP) in 2024 to reach a growth rate of 19.25%. In particular, the structure of the processing and manufacturing industry has continuously increased; in 2015 it was 81.5%; in 2020 it reached 87.6% and in 2030 it is estimated to reach 92.1%. This affirms the steady development of products with high technology, science and engineering content in Thanh Hoa industry.
Expectations for the future
In 2024, along with consolidating its position and production capacity of traditional products such as gasoline, oil, cement, garments, leather shoes, etc., Thanh Hoa welcomed an additional line of accessories for the garment industry from SAB Vietnam Industrial Factory in Bim Son Industrial Park - meeting the urgent need for auxiliary materials for the garment industry. Le Gia Seafood Canned Food Factory (Hoang Hoa) with green production standards was also inaugurated, "transforming" the rustic raw materials of Thanh Hoa into high-value export goods...
From the beginning of 2025, the province's industry will welcome new lines of modern technology products with higher added value. These include new steel products using Italy's DANIELI steel technology, the most modern in Europe, of Nghi Son Steel Rolling Mill No. 2; Radial automobile tire products of COFO Tire Vietnam Co., Ltd.; metal components, mechanical processing and installation of industrial machinery and equipment... supplying key national and international projects from petrochemicals, heavy industry, thermal power to high-rise buildings, prefabricated steel buildings and public infrastructure of Nghi Son High-Tech Mechanical Factory.
Along with 46 industrial projects approved in principle last year, with registered capital of 11,730 billion VND and 242.2 million USD; in 2025, Thanh Hoa is expected to attract large, key projects in the industrial sector. In particular, investment projects in construction and business of industrial park infrastructure such as: Phu Quy with a total investment of 55 million USD, Giang Quang Thinh with a total investment of 53 million USD, and the Western Industrial Park of Thanh Hoa City with a total investment of 122 million USD are expected to be "fertile land" for many quality secondary investment projects in the processing and manufacturing sector.
Hundreds of industrial "machines" are still operating day and night. Nghi Son Port is bustling with ships carrying cooking oil, steel, cement, packaging... to be consumed all over the country. Many high-tech projects, in line with the development trend and investment attraction orientation of the province such as electricity, wind power... are also attracting the attention of many transnational corporations such as: JERA Co.Inc (Japan); GEO (Federal Republic of Germany); KOSPO, Daewoo E&C (Korea); Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited (Thailand)... will make Thanh Hoa become one of the major centers of the region and the whole country in heavy industry, energy industry, processing, manufacturing in the near future.
