At the press conference on the Vietnam International Tourism Fair - VITM Hanoi 2025 with the theme of Developing Green Destinations, Enhancing Vietnam Tourism on the morning of March 25, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, Mr. Vu The Binh said that this year the discount factor is no longer the highlight like previous fairs.
Mr. Binh explained that when the Covid-19 pandemic ended, tourism around the world had changed. Tourists' approaches and preferences for traveling were now different. Price was no longer the deciding factor, but safety, health and experience were the new priorities.
Therefore, the Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association noted that when service quality is not improved but prices are reduced, tourism will lose both: service quality and number of visitors.

“Stimulus discounts are now outdated. In previous years, tour and tourism service prices were reduced by 20-30%, and further reduction is difficult now. Stimulus products need to be innovated in the direction of improving quality and added value, such as not reducing prices but giving away meals and gifts to customers, etc.
Some units have implemented this direction, with initial results. This is also a common trend in the world, avoiding turning Vietnam into a cheap destination," said Mr. Binh.
Mr. Vu The Binh emphasized that currently, the Green factor in tourism is the most important, and the environment is a matter of survival. According to him, if green tourism was previously just a slogan, now it is necessary to turn that policy into a specific product, so that visitors can see, touch, and feel it.
Vietnam tourism can increase its value very quickly if we have more green services. Therefore, he believes that the tourism industry, businesses and tourist destinations need to make a green transition as quickly as possible so that Vietnam can soon have a green label, thereby proving that our service quality is on par with the world.
“We must build green destinations to elevate Vietnamese tourism. Let that greenness permeate the thinking of businesses, tourism workers and the community,” he noted.
Therefore, the forum “Developing Green Destinations, Elevating Vietnam Tourism” will be the highlight of VITM Hanoi 2025. It is expected that 200 - 300 delegates attending the forum will exchange and discuss the development of green destinations in tourism; realize initiatives to approach and expand the market for green tourism business models, and gradually implement digital transformation to promote the development of Vietnam tourism in general and green tourism in particular.
This year's Vietnam International Tourism Fair takes place from April 10 to 13 in Hanoi. With 450 booths, the fair attracts the participation of 60 domestic and foreign tourism promotion agencies, 8 airlines, 16 countries and territories and more than 600 businesses. There are currently 1,228 appointments on the VITM system.
