Hon Doc is the largest island in the pirate archipelago in the Southwest Sea, located in Tien Hai Commune, Ha Tien Town, Kien Giang Province. Located close to the maritime border between Vietnam and Cambodia, which is home to many important commercial shipping routes, and has a rugged terrain, this area was the scene of pirate activity in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, often ambushing and attacking passing merchant ships.
The name of the pirate archipelago was formed from there. Legend has it that after capturing merchant ships, pirates often brought spoils and goods to Hon Doc Island to divide and bury, causing people to spread word of mouth about the treasures left behind by the pirates.
Although located far from the mainland and difficult to access, Hon Doc is compensated by the wild beauty that not every coastal area has. Around the island, the white sand is flat and the water is as deep as a mirror. The black color of the rocks, the deep blue color of the sea and the roar of the white-capped waves are deeply engraved in the minds of the locals and tourists from all over.
Hon Doc is located in the Southwest sea, enjoying a warm climate all year round, making it convenient for tourists to visit and experience at any time, but the most ideal is the dry season because the sea is quite calm, without big waves. Unlike Phu Quoc or Nam Du, tourism on Hon Doc island is still very wild. Therefore, tourists are mostly self-sufficient, traveling to explore on their own, because professional tourism services have not yet fully exploited this place.

The islanders are blessed with many kinds of seafood of high economic value by the golden sea, so for generations, fishermen have lived off this resource. Tourists coming to the island every early morning, when the boat returns to the dock, can get off the boat to buy shrimp, squid, sea urchin, clams, and all kinds of fish at very cheap prices and ask the locals to cook them for them, or they can “grill everything” on the beach and enjoy it right there.
In Hon Doc, the most popular means of transportation are bicycles and motorbike taxis. In addition to hiring a motorbike taxi to go around the island, with the driver also being a tour guide telling stories about the island, renting a bicycle to explore the forest and sea is extremely interesting.
Hon Doc does not have professional accommodation services such as hotels or motels, so tourists can use the homestay services of the locals. Currently, many families in Hon Doc have built their own rooms, mainly for tourists to rent and provide services related to accommodation, food and tourism such as renting boats to explore the surrounding islands, going on night squid fishing trips, renting bicycles and motorbikes to explore the island.

Not only that, Hon Doc is also one of the key belts of the coastal island system in the Southwest of the Fatherland. At the sacred border of the country, nearly 500 households steadfastly cling to the sea, building the economy with pride in the homeland's sea and islands.
The sovereignty marker is located in the west of Hon Doc island, built in 1958. This is historical evidence affirming national sovereignty and the sea and island borders of the Fatherland. Time has faded the ink on the marker, but anyone who comes here cannot help but feel proud and love their homeland's sea and islands even more.
Hon Doc is changing day by day, the strong will and determination of generations of residents at the forefront of the waves and winds have created the appearance of a prosperous island commune. Today, the next generations on this island commune are joining hands and hearts to build an increasingly prosperous life, becoming a vibrant fishing ground of the silver sea of Kien Giang.
