Vietnam meets Asian Cycling Federation

It is known that today (February 6), a professional meeting took place before the tournament, in which the unfortunate incident that happened to the Vietnamese road cycling team was resolved. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - Head of the Vietnamese delegation participating in the Asian tournament in Thailand said that the organizing committee had contacted the Vietnamese delegation to inform them of the incident and said that it would be resolved today.

It is known that Vietnamese athletes are required to purchase some types of compulsory insurance, such as social insurance (health insurance, unemployment insurance, etc.). Regarding racing cars and accompanying equipment, according to the rules and regulations of the organizing committee, transportation and storage are operated by the organizing committee, so the organizing committee will compensate in case of incidents or damages.

Vietnam team's bicycle incident: Cause of fire unknown, organizers will compensate

Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh - Head of High Performance Sports Department (Department of Sports and Physical Training) said that today, the organizing committee and the Asian Cycling Federation will meet and discuss compensation methods for the Vietnamese cycling team.

Vietnam will urgently bring road racing bicycles to Thailand

After the meeting this morning (February 6), the Thai Organizing Committee has prepared 7 individual time trial bikes and racing helmets. They are contacting to provide shoes and pedals today. The team will compete in individual time trials from tomorrow until February 11, then compete in road events. Currently, the Vietnam Cycling Federation is preparing road bikes for the athletes and will bring them from Vietnam on February 10.

According to information from the Vietnamese cycling team, after arriving at Bangkok airport, the Vietnamese delegation boarded the organizing committee's bus to return to the competition venue. The competition equipment, including bicycles, spare tires, shoes, and helmets, were transported by truck by the organizing committee. The reason why the truck caught fire is still unknown. However, the number of bicycles and equipment that the Vietnamese cycling team lost was quite large. Among them, there were athletes competing in 2 events, so they had to bring 2 specialized vehicles to compete.

The most expensive car costs more than 400 million VND

According to initial statistics from the coaching staff, the truck contained 30 specialized racing bicycles and spare parts such as wheels, helmets, shoes, etc.

It is known that there are very expensive personal time trial racing cars such as the car of racer Nguyen Tuan Vu, priced at 400 million VND, and Nguyen Thi Thu Mai, priced at over 250 million VND/car. The remaining cars of the team, including the car of racer Nguyen Thi That, are also priced at over 150 million VND.

Lend the car to the Vietnamese team to compete

Speaking this morning, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - General Secretary of the Vietnam Cycling - Motor Sports Federation, head of the Vietnamese cycling delegation participating in the Asian Road Cycling Championship shared: "Representatives of the organizing committee, host Thailand, have contacted the Vietnamese delegation to grasp the damage from the fire in competition equipment. The organizing committee has collected information about the number and size of helmets and shoes of Vietnamese athletes. Regarding the competition vehicles, the Thai side also said that they are ready to lend the Vietnamese cycling team vehicles. Members of the Asian Cycling Federation meeting in Thailand also said that they are ready to support vehicles for Vietnamese athletes to compete."

The organizers lending out bikes for competition is just a "firefighting" solution because according to the coaches, with the specific nature of cycling, each athlete is equipped with a specialized bike suitable for their height, weight, etc. Competing with borrowed bikes cannot ensure the best professional factors, especially when the Vietnamese road cycling team is expecting to compete with high results in many events for both the team and youth teams at this Asian road cycling tournament.

The cause of the truck fire that destroyed all 30 bicycles and specialized equipment of the Vietnamese cycling team inside has not yet been announced. It is known that there was also some equipment of the Singapore cycling team on the truck.

All of the Vietnamese team's equipment, including racing cars and spare parts, were loaded onto a truck of the Organizing Committee and transported to Phitsanulok. After about 7 hours of traveling to Phitsanulok, we received information that the vehicle carrying the Vietnamese team's equipment had an accident on the road and caught fire, completely damaged."
