Former coach of Vietnam U23 team Gong Oh-kyun met with leaders of Hanoi Police Club this afternoon, October 30, to negotiate about leading the reigning V-League champion in the 2023-2024 season.
According to VnExpress sources, the two sides have reached some agreements but have not yet finalized the contract due to concerns about compensation. The Korean coach will visit the team's headquarters at PVF in Hung Yen on October 31 and continue negotiations.
If he signs a two-year contract, Mr. Gong will be able to bring along his own team of assistants.

Coach Gong, born in 1974, led the U23 Vietnam team to compete in the 2022 U23 Asian Cup. The Korean coach made a strong impression when he encouraged young players to confidently hold the ball, coordinate short passes and play offensively. The team started with a 2-2 draw with Thailand after leading twice, then drew 1-1 with Korea and beat Malaysia 2-0 to win the ticket to the next round. In the quarter-finals, Coach Gong and his students lost to the eventual champions, Saudi Arabia, with a score of 0-2.
After leaving U23 Vietnam, Coach Gong has not led any team.
CAHN currently owns the most "terrifying" squad in Vietnam with a series of stars such as goalkeeper Filip Nguyen, central defender Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Bui Tien Dung, full-back Vu Van Thanh, Doan Van Hau, Ho Tan Tai, midfielder Phan Van Duc, Nguyen Quang Hai, foreign player Gieovane... However, they have not built an impressive playing style as expected.
Last season, CAHN was led by three different coaches. In turn, Paulo Foiani, Flavio Cruz and then Technical Director Tran Tien Dai right before the final round. This season, Mr. Dai led two matches in the V-League: a 1-1 draw with Binh Dinh at home and a 3-0 win over HAGL in Pleiku. Before that, he and his students lost to Thanh Hoa in the National Super Cup match.
CAHN once targeted coach Mano Polking. However, the coach with German and Brazilian bloodlines still has a contract to lead the Thai team until the end of the 2024 Asian Cup.
