Trang Bom Railway Station (Dong Nai) has just launched its first train carrying 16 liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks from the South to the North. This is an important breakthrough for the PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and the Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR).

On September 6, at Trang Bom train station (Dong Nai), leaders of PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and VNR cut the ribbon to launch the first LNG (liquefied natural gas) train from the South to the North.

This is an important milestone for the gas industry in Vietnam .

The first train carrying LNG from South to North departed.

According to PV GAS, these 16 LNG tanks will be brought to Dong Anh station, Hanoi and will be transported by specialized vehicles to the place of consumption.

PV GAS leaders said that recently, the demand for energy to serve industry in the North has been increasing, so the unit has urgently implemented a multimodal LNG transportation plan by road and rail to bring this gas to the Northern markets.

The event of the train carrying 16 LNG tanks from the South to the North marked PV GAS's completion of the gas energy supply chain by pipeline, waterway, road and rail, creating a comprehensive, flexible and widespread energy supply system throughout the entire territory of Vietnam.

Shipments of clean energy are transported by rail to the North.

This is an important premise for PV GAS to develop services and complete diverse new energy solutions, meeting customers' energy needs, serving economic and social development. In addition to the task of expanding PV GAS's supply map, LNG trading by rail/tanker truck also contributes to the development of clean LNG energy sources (reducing CO2 emissions by 30% compared to coal and 40% compared to oil).

Mr. Nguyen Phuc Tue, Deputy General Director of PV GAS, said that the unit has connected with units needing LNG across the country.

At the departure ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Tue, Deputy General Director of PV GAS affirmed that the first LNG train from the South to the North is the result of the intelligence, enthusiasm, determination and continuous efforts of the PV GAS team.

Thereby demonstrating the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, innovation and creativity of the PV GAS team participating in this special campaign.

"From this departure, PV GAS will open up many opportunities and development space in the coming time," said Mr. Tue.

Mr. Phan Quoc Anh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation, said that Ratraco has been assigned to transport LNG on the railway.

The units gave flowers to the driver team before leaving.

The first LNG train will be given priority to travel along the entire route to ensure progress. The estimated transportation time from South to North is 3 days.

This train carries 16 ISO Tanks ( about 300 tons of liquefied LNG ), expected to arrive at Dong Anh Station on the afternoon of September 9. The ISO Tanks are loaded with LNG at Thi Vai Central LNG Port Warehouse (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) and transported by road to Trang Bom Station .

This is also the first train that PV GAS has piloted using multimodal transport (combining road and rail) to transport LNG from the South to the North. Previously, from March 2024, the transportation of LNG by ISO Tank was mainly carried out by the unit using tank trucks , mainly supplying the Southern market and the South Central provinces .

It is expected that from now until the end of 2024, VNR will transport about 60 to 120 ISO Tanks from the South to the North each month.

LNG ISO Tank is a type of tank designed according to ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards to store natural gas that has been cooled at -162°C to convert to liquid state (Liquefied Natural Gas - LNG), convenient for transportation .
