After land conversion, this spring crop, Hong Loc, Tan Loc and Binh An communes (Loc Ha, Ha Tinh) reduced 9,192 small rice fields.

Land conversion, Loc Ha reduced 9,192 plots

People in Quan Nam village (Hong Loc commune) plant spring rice seedlings in large fields.

This is the second spring crop that Mr. Duong Van Cuong in Thuong Phu village (Hong Loc commune) has cultivated on a large 1-acre field in Tha Con field. After a year of land conversion and hard work, the large field is always full of water, the field surface is flat, the internal road is complete... so production is very favorable.

Mr. Cuong shared that in the past, each crop his family had to cultivate 8 fields (equivalent to 8 people being divided into fields) in different areas, so it was very difficult, took a lot of effort, and was difficult to travel... productivity and efficiency were not high. Therefore, his family had to produce moderately, and some bad fields had to be abandoned.

Mr. Cuong excitedly said: “This spring crop, the fields have been completely renovated, production has stabilized, so people are very happy. With large fields, from now on we do not have to run around all over the fields, nor worry about irrigation or machines not being able to reach the fields to serve production. We strive to increase the productivity of this spring crop higher than last year (reaching over 60 tons/ha), reducing labor and costs.”

Mr. Duong Van Cuong's 1-acre rice field has been prepared, waiting for sowing day.

Mr. Le Viet Binh - Chairman of Hong Loc Commune People's Committee informed: "After a year of converting land into large plots, we have invested 18 billion VND to complete the infrastructure system and renovate the fields.

Thanks to the effective conversion of land, this spring crop, Hong Loc has reduced 4,940 small plots (total area of the whole commune is 529 hectares). Currently, nearly 86% of households are cultivating one large plot, more than 14% are cultivating two adjacent plots. People are also excited to cultivate on large plots, so they are determined to cover the entire area.

Thanks to investment in renovation, the surface of large fields is quite flat, easy to plant, and retains water evenly.

Tan Loc is the second locality in Loc Ha district to thoroughly convert land for the third time, aiming at the goal of each family having one plot of land. Carrying out the "revolution" in the fields, Tan Loc commune has divided 3,719 small plots into 1,621 large plots (reduced by 2,098 plots) for more efficient production.

After 2 months of receiving the fields, currently, 100% of the farming households have carried out the renovation. In favorable locations with little renovation, people have planted spring tea early, and in more complicated plots, they are urgently hiring machinery to level and plow to plant according to the crop schedule. In addition, the locality is also continuing to upgrade, renew and complete unfinished internal roads and canals.

Mr. Dao Van Duong in Tan Loc commune rented machinery to level and plow the 1-hectare field he had just received.

Mr. Dao Van Duong (Tan Thuong village, Tan Loc commune) said: “Previously, my family had 6 rice fields, scattered throughout the fields, with both good and bad fields. But now, we only have 1 field with an area of 1.2 hectares, located near the main road, with a water channel next to it, so it is quite convenient for production. Currently, we have hired 26 diggers and tractors at a cost of 26 million VND to renovate the field surface, and in about a week we can plant seeds.”

Binh An commune has also initially left positive marks in the work of land consolidation and land consolidation. Mr. Dang Hong Thuan - Chairman of Binh An Commune People's Committee said: "At the end of 2023, we selected 60 hectares of production land in Xuan Trieu village as a pilot, gaining experience before implementing more than 600 hectares in the whole commune in 2024. Although it is a difficult village, thanks to great efforts and determination, everything has been implemented smoothly, methodically, on schedule and effectively. This spring crop, 197 households in Xuan Trieu village have reduced 2,154 small plots (from 2,351 plots to 197 plots), many households previously had 7-12 plots now have only 1 large plot, production is favorable, people are very satisfied".

People in Xuan Trieu village destroy the banks of the fields, add lime to remove alum... to improve the fields after land consolidation.

Implementing the third land conversion policy, over the past year, Loc Ha district has deployed it in Hong Loc, Tan Loc and Binh An communes with a total area of nearly 1,250 hectares; thereby reducing 9,129 small plots (from 12,568 small plots to 3,376 large plots). The above localities have carried out the conversion quite thoroughly, so currently about 90% of households have only one plot, the remaining have 2 plots but still adjacent to each other. The land conversion process is associated with infrastructure investment, increased mechanization, changing people's production thinking... so it has achieved quite comprehensive results.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thanh - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Loc Ha district assessed: "The third land conversion process in Loc Ha was carried out publicly, democratically, effectively and received high consensus from the people. Thereby, it contributed to creating a new momentum in production, creating favorable conditions for the whole district to accumulate 1,610 hectares in 2 years and by 2030 reach 4,000 hectares (accounting for 50% of the total production area of the district) as planned".
