On August 27, on the occasion of Vu Lan season of filial piety 2023, Yen Tu Pagoda (Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Quang Ninh province) coordinated with Than Chau Ngoc Viet Company to announce the creation of a statue of King Tran Nhan Tong and restarted the creation of the world's largest jade Buddha statue of Shakyamuni.
At Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace (Yen Tu Pagoda), the making of the statue of Buddha King Tran Nhan Tong was announced.
Accordingly, the statue of Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong was crafted from Jadeite jade. The statue is 1/1 the size of the Buddha statue in the ancestral tower. It is expected that the jade Buddha statue will be offered to Yen Tu pagoda on December 13 (November 1, Quy Mao year) on the occasion of the 715th death anniversary of the Buddha, and the 60th anniversary of the founding of Quang Ninh province.
The Buddha Emperor statue is carved from Jadeite, commonly known as jadeite, meaning that a single piece of jade contains both green and red colors. This type of jade is also as transparent as glass.
The Buddha statue is precious not only because of the value of the jade but also because of the meticulousness and care of the artisan's hands and the Buddha's grateful heart and philosophy of "living a beautiful life".
The statue of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong in his ancestral temple has been re-crafted by many artisans using different materials.
The world's largest jade statue of Sakyamuni Buddha will also be crafted to continue the unfinished wish of the late national artisan Dao Trong Cuong. Many artisans from home and abroad will join hands to create this statue. The statue is also made of jade.
Than Chau Ngoc Viet Company continues to restart the production of the world's largest jade Buddha statue of Shakyamuni. The jade block will be crafted by outstanding artisans at home and abroad.
The Jade Buddha Sakyamuni will be created from a precious stone that has captivated jade merchants around the world with the title "a perfect jade block with almost no cracks". In 2009, the late national artisan Dao Trong Cuong successfully brought this beautiful 35-ton Jadeite block mined from Myanmar to Vietnam after a journey of 3 years.
It is expected that after completion, the Jadeite Buddha Shakyamuni statue will weigh up to 16 tons, be 3 meters high, 2 meters wide and 1 meter long. The pedestal will weigh up to 9 tons, be 60 cm high, and each side is 2.1 meters. This will also be the largest Jadeite Buddha statue in the world.
Historian Duong Trung Quoc, Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, said that with these jade Buddha statues, Yen Tu and Quang Ninh will become even richer. "Rich here is not only material resources but also rich in spiritual resources. Yen Tu is the birthplace of one of the greatest Buddhist heritages of Vietnam, which is also an international Buddhist heritage. Here, the Third Patriarch left behind the spiritual heritage of Truc Lam Zen, devoting himself to humanity. That Buddhist philosophy teaches us that the Buddha realm is not far away but is right where we live," said historian Duong Trung Quoc.
