This request was emphasized by Mr. Phan Van Mai in the meeting on the socio-economic situation in August and the first 8 months of the year, which took place on the morning of September 4.
According to Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council has issued a resolution clearly regulating the fees and collection levels in schools. Schools must comply with regulations and all fees in schools must be transparent and must not violate the established principles.
In that context, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also noted that if there is a need to mobilize additional revenue outside of approved amounts, schools must receive consent from parents before proceeding.
Mr. Phan Van Mai also encouraged the press to report cases of overcharging so that timely corrective measures can be taken. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also emphasized that the education sector should not allow incidents that go against the principles and philosophy of education to occur.
In addition to rectifying overcharging, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested the Department of Education and Training to organize the opening ceremony of the new school year on September 5 in a concise but meaningful manner.
At the same time, Mr. Phan Van Mai also directed the Department of Education and Training to resolve common problems encountered during school years, especially the shortage of teachers in some subjects such as fine arts, music and foreign languages.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee raised the issue of the lack of teachers, saying that Ho Chi Minh City has abundant human resources but lacks teachers for important subjects. He asked the Director of the Department of Education and Training to find a solution, possibly mobilizing retired teachers who are still healthy. If there is no teaching certificate for the above subjects, then coordinate with the University of Education and Saigon University to organize teaching classes to issue certificates.
Earlier, at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Department is facing many difficulties in recruiting teachers for music and fine arts. The Department is currently researching to build policies to attract personnel for these subjects.
In addition, the Department of Education and Training has also coordinated with the Department of Health to check and update the list of measles vaccinations for students, especially preschool children, to ensure their health right from the beginning of the school year.
