On the morning of August 15, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong received Ms. Samina Naz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh, who came to bid farewell at the end of her term in Vietnam.
At the reception, the President congratulated Ambassador Samina Naz on her successful completion of her six-year tenure in Vietnam; and highly appreciated the Ambassador’s active and effective contributions to deepening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Bangladesh in recent times.
The President believes that no matter what position he holds, the Ambassador will continue to have good feelings for the country and people of Vietnam, always be a close friend, and constantly contribute to and foster the relationship between Vietnam and Bangladesh.
Through the Ambassador, President Vo Van Thuong respectfully sent his regards to Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
For her part, Ambassador Samina Naz expressed her honor to be received by President Vo Van Thuong and respectfully sent the President greetings and regards from the President of Bangladesh.
Expressing admiration and joy at Vietnam's achievements in all aspects and its constantly improving international position, Ambassador Samina Naz said that Bangladesh always values and wishes to learn from Vietnam's experience.
In 2023, the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. Ambassador Samina Naz expressed her joy at the good development of the Vietnam-Bangladesh relationship in all fields, one of the bright spots of which is the trade turnover between the two countries reaching about 1.5 billion USD.
Along with recent delegation exchanges, the Ambassador believes that the relationship between the two countries will develop strongly in the coming time, especially in the field of tourism; including spiritual and Buddhist tourism.

Ambassador Samina Naz believes that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the country and people of Vietnam will continue to achieve even greater achievements in the future.
Once again expressing her deep impression of Vietnam, Ms. Samina Naz said that she will always keep the image and good feelings about the country and people of Vietnam, "carrying Vietnam in her heart"; wishing to become a goodwill ambassador of Vietnam in the positions she will hold in the future.
Expressing his appreciation and gratitude to Ambassador Samina Naz for her kind words and positive evaluation of Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that Vietnam and Bangladesh have a long-standing traditional relationship. Bangladesh is one of the few countries in South Asia that established diplomatic relations with Vietnam early, 50 years ago.
The President said that Vietnam and Bangladesh have many similarities, especially in economic development. The two countries both focus on attracting foreign investment based on abundant human resources, so they can share experiences and cooperate.
The President agreed with the Ambassador's assessment of the positive development of the bilateral relationship; in particular, bilateral trade has increased fourfold over the past 10 years, and the two sides are striving towards the vision of 2 billion USD in the coming years.
Believing that there is still much room, the President suggested that the two countries strengthen cooperation, especially exchanging delegations at high and all levels, thereby promoting comprehensive cooperation.
The President wished Bangladesh a successful general election, thereby further promoting cooperation with Vietnam in all areas, especially trade and investment; striving to achieve the target of 2 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover sooner than expected; and promoting exchanges in other areas.
Besides, the two countries also need to continue supporting each other at multilateral forums in the region and the world. Vietnam supports the strengthening of relations between Bangladesh and ASEAN based on each side's strengths.
Acknowledging and sharing Ambassador Samina Naz’s sincere and profound feelings about the country and people of Vietnam, the President mentioned a famous verse by a Vietnamese poet: “When we are here, it is just a place to live, when we leave, the land suddenly becomes our soul”; at the same time, he thanked Ms. Samina Naz for her intention to become a goodwill ambassador of Vietnam.
