Official construction of metro line 2 in Ho Chi Minh City

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Anh Huan - Deputy Head of MAUR said that the project to build metro line No. 2 was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on October 11, 2010 and approved for adjustment in Decision No. 4880 dated November 14, 2019. The project has a total investment of nearly VND 47,900 billion, using ODA loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and counterpart funds from the budget.

Metro line 2 has 11 stations passing through districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu.

With a length of more than 11 km (of which the underground section is more than 9 km long; the elevated section is nearly 2 km long); 10 stations (9 underground stations, 1 elevated station), the project passes through the area of ​​6 districts: 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu with a total recovered area ^of ​​251,136m2; total compensation and support costs are more than 3,753 billion VND. Up to now, the site handover rate has reached 86.69% (508/586 cases).

Previously, on June 22, 2023, MAUR held a groundbreaking ceremony for technical infrastructure works for the electricity category. By December 2023, the selection of contractors for the relocation and reconstruction of water supply, drainage, lighting, signboards, and traffic signals was completed.

"Today, in the atmosphere of the beginning of the new year, I am pleased to announce that our technical infrastructure relocation work has met the conditions for simultaneous construction. We request contractors to urgently focus on mobilizing workers and construction machinery; at the same time, request the drainage contractor to coordinate with water and electricity contractors to deploy construction work immediately after today's ceremony to ensure the progress agreed upon by all parties: basically complete the relocation of technical infrastructure works in 2024 to be ready for handover to the main contractor for tunnel and station construction in 2025" - Mr. Bui Anh Huan directed.

Metro Line 2 is a project that plays an important role in developing the city's urban railway system, completing the transportation network as well as beautifying, developing urban areas and promoting the economy and society of Ho Chi Minh City.

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that the project lays the foundation for the development phase of the city's underground space based on underground stations along the route. At the same time, the project applies a new approach - ensuring "clean" site clearance and 100% "clean" technical infrastructure before constructing the main projects. In addition, this is also the first project in the city to apply the project information model from survey, design to supervision and construction implementation; applying advanced technologies in the construction implementation process such as underground drilling, underground power system, underground water supply system...

According to plan, metro line 2 will be completed in 2026. However, due to difficulties in site clearance, the project's completion date has been postponed to 2030.
