The US Navy's Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta and the Royal Canadian Navy's frigate HMCS Ottawa conducted a routine transit through the Taiwan Strait on November 1, according to a statement posted on the US Navy's 7th Fleet website.
"This transit was uneventful, unprovocative, and consistent with international law. The Rafael Peralta and Ottawa's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the commitment of the United States and our allies and partners to a free and open Indo-Pacific," the statement said.

Taiwan's Defense Ministry confirmed today that two US and Canadian warships passed through the Taiwan Strait in a northerly direction on the evening of November 1, according to Reuters. Taiwan's Defense Ministry also said that they monitored the activities of the two US and Canadian warships, and found the situation "normal".
Meanwhile, the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese military said today, November 2, that it had tracked and monitored the movement of US and Canadian warships through the Taiwan Strait on November 1, according to Reuters. The Chinese military also emphasized that it remained on high alert to "resolutely safeguard national sovereignty as well as regional peace and stability."
The above trip of the two US and Canadian warships marked the third time that naval ships from the two countries had a joint operation in the Taiwan Strait since June, according to Reuters.
