In an interview in Hong Kong, China, Mr. Lee Kai-fu affirmed: "In the past, I used to think that China was 6 to 9 months behind in the field of AI development, but now the gap is only about 3 months in some core technologies, and even less in some areas.

This is achieved thanks to companies like DeepSeek optimizing the use of chips and applying advanced algorithms."

As a globally renowned expert in the field of AI and a former director of Google China, Mr. Lee commented that DeepSeek has proven that Beijing is ahead in areas such as infrastructure software engineering.

Besides, Washington's sanctions cannot slow down the AI ​​development of the world's second largest economy.

“DeepSeek is closing the gap with the US, and may even surpass it thanks to its new reinforcement learning method,” asserted 01.A1 CEO.

According to him, the unique feature allows users to see the inference process before giving an answer of the AI ​​model on the DeepSeek platform. Meanwhile, OpenAI has developed this feature but has not officially provided it to users.

Calling US sanctions on China's semiconductor industry a "double-edged sword," Lee said: "These sanctions have created challenges for Beijing, but at the same time have become an incentive for companies to innovate and develop their own algorithms."
