DNVN - On December 12, the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT encountered a problem that caused the service to stop working globally.
Data from Downdetector shows that the problem began appearing at around 7:10 a.m. on December 12. Many of the US-based company's services were disrupted, with the majority of problem reports directly related to ChatGPT.
In Singapore, the number of users reporting ChatGPT errors spiked, peaking at 150 cases at 8:09 a.m. In the US, the number was much higher, reaching 28,478 cases at 7:40 a.m.
“We are currently experiencing an outage,” OpenAI said in a post on social media platform X at 8:15 a.m. ET. “We have identified the issue and are working on a fix. We apologize and will keep you updated.”
The incident has left many users disappointed, including many who are using paid service packages. On social network X, some students expressed their frustration because they urgently needed to complete their assignments when the incident occurred.
“ChatGPT decided to crash the day before I had a project to complete,” said one user.
Another response shared: “I was a paid member of ChatGPT from the beginning, then their $200 package came out and now I am cut off…”.
However, there were also humorous comments: “ChatGPT has stopped working. Looks like everyone will have to complete their homework the old way,” one person wrote.
Previously, on December 11 (Pacific time), applications such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and Threads belonging to Meta Group also encountered technical problems, leading to inaccessibility worldwide.
Meta confirmed the issue in a post on social media X, saying the issue affected access for some users. The company is working to fix the issue and apologized to affected customers.
Instagram also issued a similar announcement, while WhatsApp confirmed that the error had been resolved and informed that users started messaging normally from 1:49 a.m. on December 12, Vietnam time.
According to Downdetector.com, the Meta outage began at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on December 11, or around 1 a.m. Vietnam Time on December 12. The number of error reports increased sharply to more than 97,000 cases at 10 a.m., while Instagram alone recorded more than 67,000 reports.
Meta is still investigating the cause of this incident.
