In the first crop of the project, Chon Chinh Import-Export Company Limited (Chon Chinh Company) was the unit that achieved the highest bonus, with more than 1.16 billion VND. Chon Chinh Company registered to compete with an area of more than 1,514 hectares, achieving an average greenhouse gas emission reduction of 6.57 tons of CO2/ha and an average profit of 68.41% for farmers.

Along with Chon Chinh Company, other businesses were awarded cash prizes, including Vietnam Rice Company Limited, which was awarded more than 456.18 million VND; Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, more than 372.63 million VND; Xuan Phuong Kien Giang Company Limited, more than 351.69 million VND; ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company, which was awarded more than 318.7 million VND; A An Food Joint Stock Company, more than 301.98 million VND; Angimex-Kitoku Company Limited, more than 147.86 million VND, and King Green Food Joint Stock Company, more than 69.84 million VND.

With funding from the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, the Netherlands Development Organization SNV, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Departments of Agriculture and Environment of the three provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap and Kien Giang, is implementing the TRVC Project. The TRVC Project is a pioneer in using a results-based award mechanism to encourage and attract the participation of enterprises in the rice value chain to promote the large-scale application of advanced rice production technologies to bring higher economic value to smallholder farmers and all actors in the chain. Improve rice quality and inclusive social values, while achieving the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment. In the first crop of the Project, an independent inspection unit calculated and synthesized the results from each plot registered by enterprises to participate in the project. The efforts of enterprises and farmers in association with enterprises have brought about many positive results in terms of economy, society and environment, especially the rice fields have reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The TRVC project aims to achieve a minimum profit of 30% for smallholder farmers, but in fact, the profit of farmers in the first crop of project implementation was very high, with an average of more than 59%, in addition, farmers also received bonuses from enterprises from the project. In terms of environmental efficiency, the total emission reduction is 27,161.98 tons of CO2 equivalent/total area of 6,165.51ha. In terms of social efficiency, 100% of enterprises participating in the project have integrated policies and implemented measures to ensure social equity within the enterprises themselves and in the chains in the 3 provinces implementing the project... Thereby, the project has promoted the development of a sustainable rice value chain, adapting to climate change and contributing to the implementation of the goal of the Project on sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030. The project also directly contributes to mitigating global climate change.

Continue to develop

Being awarded a cash prize by the TRVC Project for joining forces with farmers to produce sustainable rice and reduce emissions has brought great joy and honor to the enterprise. At the same time, it has created motivation for enterprises to continue to promote and expand the area of rice production to reduce emissions.

Ms. Tran Ngoc Chau, Deputy General Director of Angimex-Kitoku Co., Ltd., said: "The company is very honored to receive the award and it is a great source of motivation for the unit to continue to expand the implementation in the next rice crops." The result helped reduce the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2,716 tons of CO2, equivalent to an average reduction of 4.11 tons of CO2/ha and the average profit of farmers reached 45% - higher than the project's requirement of 30%. The company is extremely honored and proud to contribute to this meaningful result. The company also identifies its responsibility in promoting the transformation of the rice production system towards reducing emissions. The company will continue to expand the project area in 2025 and the following years.

Chon Chinh Company Limited received the first crop award with an amount of more than 1.16 billion VND.

The TRVC project will be implemented from 2023 and last until 2027. Thereby, they have the opportunity to win attractive cash and non-cash prizes, and be recognized as pioneering enterprises, their products or technologies are tested and certified to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by international testing units... According to Ms. Tran Thu Ha, Director of the TRVC Project, the project uses the role of "locomotives" of enterprises to help rice farmers improve their livelihoods and reduce emissions by applying sustainable rice production measures and improving linkages in the rice value chain. The project also supports the development of low-carbon rice brands and uses project evidence to help authorities update policies to help transform agricultural production systems towards green growth and low emissions. The project will be implemented in 6 crops, the first crop has been completed and the second crop is being implemented in the winter-spring crop of 2024-2025. The first crop achieved many positive results and businesses had a very strong motivation, so the rice area registered to participate in the second crop reached more than 33,570 hectares, an increase of more than 5.5 times compared to the first crop.
