The Ministry of Transport has just issued a decision approving the investment project to build the new Phong Chau bridge - National Highway 32C, Phu Tho province according to the emergency construction order.

According to the approved plan, the project is nearly 653m long, with a total investment of more than 635 billion VND from the central budget reserve in 2024. Of which, it is expected to allocate about 100 billion VND in 2024 and about 535 billion VND in 2025.

The new Phong Chau Bridge has its starting point at Km0+00 (about Km21+50.0 of National Highway 32C avoiding Viet Tri City), in Phung Nguyen Commune, Lam Thao District, Phu Tho Province; its ending point is at Km0+652.88 (about Km18+551.4 of National Highway 32C), in Van Xuan Commune, Tam Nong District, Phu Tho Province.

According to the design, the new Phong Chau bridge is more than 383m long (to the end of the abutment). The road section at both ends of the bridge connecting to the existing road on Lam Thao side is about 113m; on Tam Nong side, it is nearly 156m.

The bridge is permanently built with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete with a bridge width of 20.5m, suitable for the width of the roadbed.

In addition, the investment plan also mentions dismantling the remaining part and liquidating the assets of the old Phong Chau bridge. Accordingly, the steel truss span and reinforced concrete approach span will be dismantled; the lower structure of the old bridge will be cleared to ensure safe waterway traffic and clear the flow.

The new Phong Chau bridge project is being invested in to promptly handle the Phong Chau bridge collapse incident in September 2024.
