According to Reuters, the Canadian government has just issued a ban on the use of China's WeChat messaging app and Russia's Kaspersky antivirus software on government mobile devices for security and privacy reasons.
These apps will be removed from Government of Canada-issued devices and users will also be blocked from downloading them.
Treasury Board Chair Anita Anand acknowledged that there is a high risk of privacy and security breaches when using these apps. She said the decision to remove and block WeChat and Kaspersky was made to ensure the Government of Canada’s networks and data are secure and is consistent with the approach of international partners.
