Can Tho postpones the opening date of the Southern Folk Cake Festival

From the evening of April 3 to the morning of April 4, on the Facebook page "Southern Traditional Cake Festival" announced: "The stalls at the festival will still serve visitors from April 4, everyone. The opening ceremony will not take place tomorrow due to the National Day of Mourning."

Although the opening day was postponed to another day, the activities at the festival still took place.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that the department is completing procedures to change the opening ceremony date to April 6 instead of the evening of April 4.

Previously, on April 3, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a special statement stating that in order to express condolences to General Khamtay Siphandone (former Chairman of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, former President, former Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic) and based on the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to mourn General Khamtay Siphandone according to the National Mourning protocol for 2 days, from April 4 to 5, 2025.

During this time, agencies and offices nationwide and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad must fly flags at half-mast and wear mourning bands as prescribed; no public entertainment activities are organized.

The 12th Southern Traditional Cake Festival 2025 will take place from April 4 to 8 at Binh Thuy District Square.

"This is a large-scale event, held annually in Can Tho City to actively contribute to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values ​​and culinary culture of Can Tho City, the Mekong Delta region and provinces and cities across the country," said Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan.
