On April 12, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Van Minh - Vice Chairman of Nha Trang City People's Committee - said that the City People's Committee has assigned the Nha Trang Bay Management Board to coordinate with relevant units to develop a plan to salvage the barge buried on the beach.
According to Mr. Minh, Nha Trang Bay Management Board has surveyed the scene and will submit a plan and budget early next week for the City People's Committee to decide on the next steps.
"We have directed relevant units to cordon off the area and send forces to remind residents and tourists not to swim in this area," said Mr. Minh.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dam Hai Van - Head of Nha Trang Bay Management Board - said that the immediate solution is to hire a capable unit to salvage the barge, because the barge has been lying deep under the sea sand for a long time.
As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , many residents and tourists swimming at the beach opposite 80 Tran Phu (Nha Trang) had their legs cut by many sharp objects.
According to a representative of Nha Trang Bay Management Board, the above area is where an incident occurred in which a barge over 30m long ran aground and had engine failure at the end of 2019.
Currently, the sea sand has buried most of the barge's hull, however, the iron sections of the bow are still under the sand, and can rise up when the tide changes or strong waves hit, drifting ashore and posing a danger to beachgoers.
