Fanpages impersonating Hospital 108: Continuously "upgrading" scam tricks

A series of fanpages impersonating Hospital 108 approached people to sell poor quality medicine and medical services, harming people's health and affecting the hospital's reputation.

On August 12, the 108 Central Military Hospital (108 Hospital) issued a warning about the recent appearance of a series of fanpages impersonating 108 Hospital to approach people to offer poor quality medicine and medical services, causing harm to people's health and affecting the hospital's reputation.

In particular, the scam tricks are constantly being "upgraded", from using ambiguous page names that can easily cause confusion such as: "Hospital 108", "Military Hospital 108", "Military Hospital 108"... to copying and illegally posting posts, logos, and slogans from the official fanpage of Hospital 108.

There are even cases of cutting and pasting images and videos of hospitals on mass media channels and dubbing product advertisements to attract followers such as: "Cure diabetes completely without recurrence with just 1 course of treatment", "medicine for treating gray hair, melasma, beauty products tested by Institute 108", "doctor with more than 15 years of experience in the cosmetic industry directly performs".

Not only impersonating hospitals and hospital departments, many fake fanpages also impersonate hospital doctors to increase their credibility with the people. The fake content includes: claiming to invite doctors from Hospital 108 to their facility to examine patients; directly contacting and introducing themselves as doctors and nurses from the department where the patient has just been discharged to offer home patient care services; impersonating hospital doctors to propagate false medical treatment views.

In addition to the explosion of fake social networking sites, many subjects also solicit and invite patients and their relatives to go to the clinic of Hospital 108 for examination. In particular, there are subjects who even set up a group of people pretending to be from Hospital 108 to go to the clinic for examination, health consultation, pharmaceutical advertising, and organize tours combined with medical examination and treatment in areas in Hai Duong, Hai Phong, and Lao Cai.

Hospital 108 affirms that it does not supply, cooperate in business, or test any pharmaceutical products or functional foods online; it only sells drugs with a doctor's prescription at pharmacies within the hospital; Hospital 108 has not yet implemented home examination and treatment. The hospital's official information portal is www.benhvien108.vn, the official fanpage is "108 Central Military Hospital" with a blue tick of confirmation from Facebook.
