On the afternoon of April 4, the Ministry of Health said that by the end of April 3, 53/54 provinces had deployed measles vaccination for 762,320/800,719 subjects, reaching 95.2% (meeting the planned target). In particular, Can Tho City, because it had completed vaccination for groups of subjects with a high rate in 2024 and early 2025, there were still a few subjects that needed vaccination. The city has implemented integration into the regular vaccination program.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, 40/53 provinces have achieved a vaccination rate of over 95%, of which 5 provinces have the highest vaccination rate including Bac Giang (98%), Khanh Hoa (97.5%), Phu Yen (97.5%), Lang Son (97.4%), Tien Giang (97.3%); 12/53 provinces have a high vaccination rate of 90-95%, only Hoa Binh has a vaccination rate of less than 90% and is continuing to vaccinate children who have postponed vaccination.

Previously, implementing the Prime Minister's direction in Official Dispatch No. 23/CD-TTg dated March 25, 2025 on accelerating measles vaccination, the Ministry of Health has deployed solutions to urgently implement this vaccination campaign for children.

The measles vaccination campaign is being implemented in 54 provinces and cities (except for 9 provinces and cities including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Ca Mau, Kon Tum, Long An, Soc Trang, Ben Tre, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu which are not included in the plan because they have completed the vaccination campaign since 2024, phase 1 in 2025), for children from 6 months to under 9 months old, children from 1 to 10 years old who have not been fully vaccinated with measles-containing vaccines, with the target of coverage of 95% or more.

The Ministry of Health has mobilized resources to ensure adequate and timely supply of measles vaccines according to the needs of provinces and cities nationwide.

Localities organize vaccinations on holidays and in the evening

Provinces and cities have urgently implemented activities to screen subjects, propagate and mobilize parents and guardians to take their children for vaccination, and organize flexible vaccination forms suitable to the characteristics of each region and area, including vaccination on holidays (Saturday, Sunday) or vaccination in the evening.

During the implementation of this vaccination campaign, the Ministry of Health has closely monitored the progress of implementation in provinces and cities and updated daily vaccination data, vaccine usage rates, and information on the epidemic situation for timely direction.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health has also established 6 inspection, supervision, guidance and direction teams for epidemic prevention and control and the implementation of measles vaccination campaigns in 25 provinces and cities from March 20-31, 2025.

Previously, due to the complicated developments of the measles epidemic, a number of localities recorded a high number of cases. In order to quickly control the epidemic and prevent it from spreading and breaking out on a large scale, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 23/CD-TTg dated March 15, 2025 requesting to accelerate vaccination against measles, in which the Prime Minister requested the Minister of Health to direct and support localities to accelerate the implementation of the measles vaccination campaign and end the campaign no later than March 31, 2025.

Medical experts say that measles is transmitted very quickly through the respiratory tract, 90% of people who are not immune will get the disease if they come into close contact with a measles patient. On average, 1 infected person can infect 12-18 others. Notably, measles can only be stopped when community immunity reaches at least 95%.
