Treatment of hand, foot and mouth disease cases in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment (Ministry of Health) has just sent an urgent dispatch to the Departments of Health of provinces and cities and medical facilities requesting to strengthen the treatment of hand, foot and mouth disease as the epidemic is increasing.
Accordingly, in the first 5 months of 2023, the whole country recorded 8,995 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease in 63 provinces and cities; including 3 deaths in: Dak Lak, Kien Giang, Long An. Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of cases decreased by 28% but the number of deaths increased by 2 cases. Of which, the South recorded the highest number of cases (6,204 cases); followed by the North (2,007 cases); the Central Highlands (656 cases); the Central Highlands (130 cases).
To minimize the number of deaths due to hand, foot and mouth disease, the Ministry of Health requires units to develop and implement plans to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease in the area; inspect and evaluate human resources, facilities, medical equipment, chemicals and medical supplies at affiliated medical examination and treatment facilities to ensure readiness to receive and treat hand, foot and mouth disease.
Units should strengthen monitoring of hand, foot and mouth disease patients who are hospitalized at medical examination and treatment facilities, especially during holidays and weekends, to promptly detect and treat when the disease worsens; record complete and detailed medical records, detect early, organize consultations and promptly transfer patients when there are unusual developments.
The Departments of Health shall direct, inspect and supervise medical examination and treatment facilities to admit and treat patients according to the Ministry of Health's guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of hand, foot and mouth disease. At the same time, strengthen measures to prevent infection in hospitals; classify treatment; organize screening and classification of outpatients and inpatients according to the hand, foot and mouth disease treatment flowchart and consolidate resources for resuscitation units at the provincial level.
The Ministry of Health requires the Departments of Health to advise and submit to the People's Committees of provinces and cities measures to strengthen the prevention of hand, foot and mouth disease; communication work; ensure adequate equipment, medicine, chemicals and necessary medical supplies to meet treatment requirements.
The Ministry of Health also assigned the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, the Central Children's Hospital, Hue Central General Hospital, Children's Hospital 1, Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City Tropical Diseases Hospital, and provincial Tropical Diseases Hospitals to review conditions of human resources, facilities, medical equipment, drugs, chemicals and medical supplies at hand, foot and mouth disease treatment units to receive severe cases transferred from medical examination and treatment facilities in the province and other provinces.
At the same time, units strengthen the direction of training routes and organize emergency teams, ready to provide professional support to provinces according to assigned areas and when support is requested.
