In Pho Moi 1 village, Trinh Tuong commune, there are currently 2 solid houses built in the form of watchtowers during the French colonial period in the early 20th century, before the August Revolution in 1945. According to local people, these are watchtowers to protect the residential and working areas of French officers and soldiers and the village chief of Trinh Tuong commune named Se Co Tin. The watchtower is about 5m wide, about 8m high, divided into 2 floors. Currently, one watchtower next to Trinh Tuong market is still quite intact, the other watchtower has been damaged, only 1 floor remains. The lower part of the watchtower's outer layer has peeled off, revealing the main materials of bricks and cobblestones. Although the structure was not built with cement, after about a century it is still very solid. The watchtower has many windows, however, when the people here borrowed it as a temporary residence, they used bricks to cover the windows.
On the top of the hill about 1km from Trinh Tuong market, there are still traces of the French garrison built in the early 20th century. There are still traces of 3 rows of houses here, of which 1 row has walls that have not collapsed, about 4m high. Because the building has been abandoned for a long time, the roots of the forest trees cling to the brick walls, creating an ancient look.
The remaining long stone wall and cobblestone embankment show that it took a lot of materials to move up to the top of the hill to build this structure. A remaining corner of the wall of the fort. The buildings belonging to the French garrison in Trinh Tuong were all damaged and collapsed, leaving only ruins.
The ruins of the watchtower and French fort in Trinh Tuong commune are valuable historical and cultural structures that need to be considered for preservation and maintenance to educate future generations about history.
