Major Do Thi Thanh Tam was born in 1982, in a family with a father working as a police officer, originally from Trung Son commune, Viet Yen town, Bac Giang province. Not only is she known as a beautiful girl, Thanh Tam also makes everyone admire her and her friends working - saving money to help homeless children, disadvantaged children, students in remote and disadvantaged areas to go to school when participating in many volunteer activities with the group "With me to school".

Talking to Major Do Thi Thanh Tam on a late January afternoon, in the midst of the bone-chilling cold in Bac Giang, she never failed to mention the difficult circumstances of children in the mountains, their lives lacking everything from clothes to food. I felt as if she was always thinking: "I wonder what the children in the highlands will be like in this cold weather?"

She shared that since joining the group "With you to school", she has had the opportunity to send her "heart" and spread love, with the desire to bridge the gap between living and studying conditions of children in the lowlands and the highlands.

According to her, in today's society, there are many young people and volunteer groups, but many times they don't get to the point or get discouraged after only a short period of time. Doing charity work must come from the heart, from one's responsibility to others. "I just hope to have good health and time to share something with those in difficult circumstances, whether it's just a bite to eat or a set of clothes...", she expressed.

20 years ago, the most painful thing in my life happened when my best friend, who was in 11th grade, fell seriously ill and now his life is tied to the dialysis ward at Bach Mai Hospital. You are also the person who really touched me because you were the one who supported the group Cung em den truong.

For Tam, that was an unforgettable sad memory for her and her classmates. From then on, in her mind, she felt the need to help the less fortunate, to see the value of human feelings. And the idea of saving money to help others started from there, starting with balancing herself in life.

Every trip a lesson

With the concept of "if you keep going, you will get there, if you have the heart, it will be done", currently, Tam and her friends in the group Together with me to school regularly organize large and small charity activities, calling on benefactors and businesses to visit and give gifts to disadvantaged students in Bac Giang and some neighboring provinces.

Whenever she has free time, Major Tam goes with charity groups everywhere to find difficult situations and help them. She can’t remember how many gifts she has given or how many difficult cases she has helped, but she only remembers that each time she goes, she learns a lesson about compassion for others.

"Each time I go and each time I give gifts, I have different feelings. For people in the industry, because they don't have much time to go out, there are addresses and individuals who are far away and I can't reach, so I send them through friends," she said.

According to Ms. Tam, "the more you travel, the more you realize how happy you are..."

When asked about the memorable moments of volunteering, she smiled happily and said: "For myself and the members of the group, I must say that there are many memories. Each charity trip brings us many situations of ethnic minority children, all of whom are very difficult. Most recently, the group Together with you to school organized a gift-giving ceremony for students at 3 schools: Phi En, Hang Lia, Thanh Chu, Tua Sin Chai commune, Sin Ho district, Lai Chau province. On the way to give gifts to the students, I was always worried because the weather was cold, the fog was thick, the night before it rained, the road was muddy and slippery, and then the mountain collapsed and we could not go through it. Everyone had to leave their vehicles, carry their belongings, climb the mountain trail, overcome the landslide and walk 2 km. We arrived at Phi En at 11:30, our clothes were covered in mud, tired but Seeing the children in the cold of the Northwest region, wearing thin clothes, no socks, some even barefoot, still coming early to wait to receive gifts and excited when they first learned what lucky money was, everyone looked at each other and smiled.

According to Ms. Tam, "the more I travel, the happier I am! In many places in this country, there are countless eyes and hands of children who need help, even if it is just a shirt or a notebook, it makes them happy." She believes that working in the armed forces requires a high level of discipline, which is the biggest thing she has learned and helps her during her work. Up to now, she confided that she has never regretted the path she has chosen.

Major Do Thi Thanh Tam graduated from the University of Foreign Languages (Hanoi National University), majoring in Chinese. In 2009, she was recruited into the police force and assigned to the Bac Giang City Police. After working at the City Police for nearly 10 years, she decided to work at the Organization and Personnel Department of the Bac Giang Provincial Police; currently, Major Do Thi Thanh Tam holds the position of Deputy Captain of the Synthesis Team - Organization and Personnel Department of the Bac Giang Provincial Police.
