On the side of Kien Giang province's leaders, there were: Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Do Thanh Binh; representatives of the leaders of the provincial Departments, Branches, Fatherland Front and mass organizations; representatives of the Standing Committees of the District and City Party Committees; leaders of the People's Committees of districts and cities; former leaders of the National Assembly, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Committee, leaders of the Provincial Ethnic Committee through the periods; Venerable Monks, Venerable Monks, Venerable Monks, leaders of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of the province; leaders of the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks and Nuns of Kien Giang province.
Attending the meeting were more than 200 delegates, representing more than 230,000 Khmer people in Kien Giang province. Among them were Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; Heroes of the Armed Forces, incumbent and retired officials, dignitaries, prestigious people, families with meritorious services, officers and soldiers of the armed forces, intellectuals and outstanding individuals in various fields who are Khmer people in the province.
In the joyful atmosphere welcoming the New Year, delegates listened to Mr. Danh Lam, Deputy Head of the Provincial Ethnic Committee, read the Traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year Greeting Letter 2024 from the Provincial Party Committee in both Vietnamese and Khmer.
Khmer people in Kien Giang celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay this year in an atmosphere where the whole country is excited to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification; the 134th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and major holidays and important events in 2024; proud of the country's great achievements, with the efforts to compete to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party and the 5-year socio-economic development plan 2020 - 2025, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party.
In 2023, despite many difficulties, thanks to determination and flexibility at each time, accelerating at decisive stages. In 2023, Kien Giang province's economy continued to be stable and developed, with 23/24 targets reaching and exceeding the plan. Gross regional domestic product (GRDP) economic growth rate reached 6.79. Average income per capita was 73.74 million VND. The poverty rate in the province decreased to 1.28%. Up to now, the whole province has 111/116 communes and 7/15 districts and cities recognized as meeting new rural standards, of which 42 communes have a large number of ethnic minorities...
Continuing to promote the achieved results, on behalf of the provincial leaders, at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Luu Trung - Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee requested the Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front, and organizations where there are many ethnic minorities to organize, deploy, and lead the implementation of the Party and State's policies on ethnic affairs and ethnic policies.
“The heads of Party committees and authorities must be close to the people, closely follow the people, grasp their aspirations, production situation, life and activities; promptly and legally resolve the people's petitions and difficulties right at the grassroots level; ensure political security, order and social safety in ethnic minority areas, and not let hostile forces take advantage of religious and ethnic issues to distort and sabotage the great national unity bloc,” Mr. Trung suggested.
According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, one of the important events in 2024 of the province is to successfully organize the 4th Congress of ethnic minorities at all levels in the province. This is a political and social event of important significance to summarize and evaluate ethnic work and the implementation of the 5-year periodic ethnic policy, affirming the consistent policy of our Party and State on ethnic issues and great national unity as well as the contributions of ethnic minorities in the cause of national construction and defense.
At the meeting, delegates who were dignitaries, prestigious people and representatives of young intellectuals expressed their opinions and feelings on the occasion of the meeting to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay in 2024.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh expressed his joy at attending the traditional New Year meeting of the Khmer people in Kien Giang province. The delegates attending today's meeting are the outstanding children of the Khmer people, who have made worthy contributions to the cause of national liberation, construction and protection of the Fatherland; they are typical nuclei, brilliant and fragrant flowers, in the garden of great solidarity of the Vietnamese people.
Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs Hau A Lenh said that 2024 is an important year for the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party; Resolution No. 88/2019/QH14 dated November 18, 2019 of the National Assembly approving the Overall Project for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period; resolutions, decisions, and directives of the Government and the Prime Minister. The Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs has actively and proactively coordinated with ministries, branches, and localities to resolutely, synchronously, and concretize the Plan and Action Program for ethnic work according to Resolution No. 10/ND-CP dated January 28, 2022 of the Government promulgating the Strategy for Ethnic Minorities Affairs for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045.
“Ministries, branches and localities synchronously and effectively implement policies in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; focus on drastically implementing 3 National Target Programs; including the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, Phase I: From 2021 to 2025”, said Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh.
According to Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh, although the socio-economic situation of ethnic minority areas in general and the life and production of a part of the Khmer ethnic group in particular are still difficult; but with the revolutionary tradition of the province, under the leadership of the Party and the State, directly under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, and the efforts of the entire political system, Kien Giang province will have a breakthrough in socio-economic development; continue to well implement ethnic and religious policies, associated with social security policies.
Minister and Chairman Hau A Lenh hopes and believes that, with the spirit of the year of organizing the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities at district and provincial levels in 2024; the excited atmosphere to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay, compatriots, comrades and monks, Khmer ethnic people will continue to promote the spirit of patriotism, the strength of great national unity; the will of self-reliance, self-reliance, enthusiasm in emulation in labor, production, building a prosperous and happy life; join hands and unite with ethnic minorities, levels, sectors and localities to overcome difficulties, determined to successfully implement the socio-economic development goals in 2024, ensure national defense and security, contribute to building Kien Giang homeland and the whole country to develop more and more prosperously and civilizedly.

At the meeting, Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh presented meaningful New Year gifts to the representative of the Provincial Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks and Nuns; directly visited and presented 20 gifts to prestigious people in the province.
