On December 7, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) held a conference to honor outstanding elderly women nationwide in building cultural, prosperous, and happy families. Mr. Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee attended and delivered a speech at the conference.
Also attending were Ms. Truong My Hoa, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President; Ms. Ha Thi Khiet, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization, non-professional Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; Mr. Nguyen Tat Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization; Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and 291 delegates who are members of the Women's Union and the Association of the Elderly aged 60 and over from 63 provinces and cities.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, President of the Vietnam Women's Union, said that the conference honored 291 typical examples of elderly women representing more than 9 million elderly women nationwide with outstanding achievements in building a cultured, prosperous and happy family. The delegates always promote the role and responsibility of elderly women in preserving cultural identity, cultivating Vietnamese family values, especially in transmitting traditional values of Vietnamese women associated with the values of the times.
Typical examples include Ms. Thi Dong (84 years old in Hai Duong); Ngo Thi Luu (82 years old in Tra Vinh); Bui Thi Mai (81 years old in Hung Yen) ... despite their old age, they actively participate in humanitarian and charity work, support the elderly who are lonely and in difficulty, directly sponsor orphans and children infected with Agent Orange; actively participate in environmental protection. Or Ms. Ho Thi Thoi (Co ethnic group, Quang Ngai province); Phan Thi Xuyen (Tay ethnic group, Bac Kan province) ... have actively contributed to the work of preserving the traditional cultural identity of the nation, passing on the beautiful cultural values and traditional family values of the nation; educating the tradition of patriotism and revolution to the younger generation.
Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Do Van Chien, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, stated that during his lifetime, beloved President Ho Chi Minh emphasized the important role of the elderly: “The older you are, the stronger your will”. The elderly are truly a precious asset of the nation, an important force of the country, and the backbone of the family and society. Therefore, in recent years, the Party, the State and the whole society have paid special attention to the work of protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly.
According to Chairman Do Van Chien, implementing the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, in recent years, the elderly in general and elderly women in particular have always been cared for and looked after carefully to live happily and healthily, contributing to all aspects of social life, especially setting an example to encourage their children and grandchildren to build a prosperous and happy cultural family life; with their love and responsibility, they pass on to their children and grandchildren the unique cultural values and good customs of the nation, preserving family traditions and customs.
“The contributions of women have contributed to beautifying the glorious tradition, worthy of President Ho Chi Minh's praise: "The beautiful landscape of Vietnam is woven and embroidered by our women, young and old, to make it more beautiful and brilliant", Chairman Do Van Chien emphasized and acknowledged, commended the results and achievements of women in the recent past, as well as congratulated the 291 women who were voted and honored at today's Conference.
Referring to the meeting of delegates attending the Conference with President Luong Cuong, President Do Van Chien requested the Central Committee of the Association of the Elderly, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and women to effectively absorb and implement the profound instructions of President Luong Cuong.
Chairman Do Van Chien stated that the 15th National Assembly has just closed its 8th session, assessing that in 2024 our country will complete and exceed 15/15 socio-economic development targets. Currently, Party committees and organizations at all levels are actively preparing for Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party, bringing our country into a new era - the era of national development. The Politburo and General Secretary To Lam are resolutely directing the implementation of the revolution of streamlining intermediaries, streamlining the payroll, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the political system so that the country can confidently enter the era of strong development. Together with the Party and the State, the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity headed by General Secretary To Lam continues to promote the fight against corruption, waste and negativity. With the motto of being relentless, having no forbidden areas, handling one case is a warning for the whole region; Prevent corruption, waste, and negativity to contribute to the development of the country.
“The above tasks are very difficult, sensitive, and affect the interests of many people, but they cannot be avoided, for the prosperity of the country and for the happy life of the people. We respectfully request that you, ladies, agree to support, with your abilities, and contribute your efforts together with the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army to successfully carry out the above important contents,” Chairman Do Van Chien suggested.
Affirming that women in general and elderly women in particular have a very important role and position in society, especially in the family and clan. Chairman Do Van Chien suggested that elderly women across the country continue to better fulfill their duties as women; with the kindness of grandmothers and mothers, continue to preserve and promote good traditional cultural values for ancestors, clans, society and families; with love and responsibility, morality and reason, continue to advise children and relatives to strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws; promote the spirit of self-reliance, pride, confidence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, aspiration to contribute, contribute wherever possible, to build a prosperous and strong homeland, a warm and happy family.
At the same time, the head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also hopes that women will live happily and healthily, based on each person's ability and health, contributing to major campaigns and patriotic emulation movements; major campaigns launched by the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front, especially the movement to promote the role of mastery and self-management of the people to build a united, prosperous and happy residential area launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
On this occasion, Chairman Do Van Chien also asked the 291 women, the typical examples honored today, to continue promoting the results and achievements, spreading the spirit of today's Conference, encouraging all Vietnamese women in general, and elderly women in particular, to continue to be shining examples of the community, together building a peaceful, prosperous and happy life.
Also according to Chairman Do Van Chien, at the meeting with key cadres and exemplary Vietnamese elderly people on the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Elderly (June 6, 1941 - June 6, 2024), General Secretary To Lam said, "The elderly are steadfast and make active contributions to the cause of building the Party and the political system to become increasingly clean and strong; for the Fatherland, the elderly preserve the historical and cultural soul, foster an indomitable spirit, and realize the aspiration for national independence associated with socialism."
Therefore, Chairman Do Van Chien requested Party committees at all levels, the government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, organizations, each family, clan, and the whole society, through practical and specific actions, to show respect, love, care, and concern so that the elderly in general and elderly women in particular can enjoy the great achievements that the country's renovation has brought. At the same time, create conditions for elderly women to promote their abilities, together with the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army to realize the aspiration to build our country into a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic, and prosperous country, contributing worthily to the world revolutionary cause, as beloved Uncle Ho always wished during his lifetime.
At the Conference, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the Vietnam Women's Union awarded Certificates of Merit to typical elderly women for their positive contributions in implementing the Campaign to build a family of 5 no's and 3 clean's.
