The Belgian musical consists of 3 acts, 15 scenes with a total duration of 80 minutes, clearly depicting Vietnamese society under French colonial rule.
Artist Tuyet Minh said she did not want this musical to be just an illustration of the original work, but wanted to bring new impressions, connecting the thoughts of the past and present.
According to artist Tuyet Minh, Bi Vo stepping onto the Hai Phong musical stage brings an obsession with human fate in the old society but also carries the breath of modern life, aiming at good, positive values in society.
The music will be composed and arranged by musician Luu Quang Minh.
He incorporated some compositional techniques of sudden harmonic transitions to bring unexpected emotions to the audience.
Notably, the composer used rock, funky and jazz elements in this musical.
In the play, the artists performing the work were born and raised in Hai Phong, speaking in Hai Phong accent. This is probably the most Hai Phong-influenced version of Bi Vo ever.
Writer Nguyen Hong wrote the work Bi Vo in 1937. Before this musical, the work was adapted into the play Nguoi da ba danh bo (author and director, People's Artist Doan Hoang Giang), and the film Bi Vo by director Luong Duc produced in 1988 with the participation of People's Artist Hoang Cuc (as Tam Binh) and Dung Nhi (as Nam Sai Gon).
