According to the Q3-2024 Search Trends report just announced by Coc Coc Company on October 9, the event that attracted the most attention was Typhoon Yagi - the strongest typhoon in the past 30 years in the East Sea.

Typhoon Yagi and the "storm" of the dominant statement

Coc Coc users have rushed to search for information about the storm and the damage caused by natural disasters, with the keywords “typhoon Yagi” and “typhoon number 3” leading the trend.

Relief activities and financial transparency related to storms and floods also attracted great attention, with the number of searches for the keyword “Vietnam Fatherland Front statement” increasing 190.7 times compared to the previous quarter.

This reflects the community's concern and responsibility in the face of natural disasters, as well as growing interest in transparency in charitable relief work.

In the technology field, the iPhone 16 launched at the end of September 2024 attracted great attention from the community. Although it was not considered to have many breakthroughs, the number of searches for this product still increased 3.22 times compared to the previous quarter.

However, the heat of the iPhone 16 is somewhat "less" than the iPhone 15 launched last year. When compared at the same time, the iPhone 15 attracted more attention.

Slang Rises

Q3 saw the rise of a series of slang words. The most notable was the phrase “check VAR”, with an increase of 8.43 times compared to the previous quarter. Originally originating from football, “check VAR” is now widely used by Gen Z to refer to checking and verifying the accuracy of information.

Along with that, the phrase "fantasy" - referring to people who like to show off and exaggerate the truth - also increased significantly with an increase of 3.47 times.

Social media trends have become even more vibrant with phrases like “if you’re scared, go home” and “the top of the roof is fluttering.” These are slang words originating from popular cultural events, conveying the spirit of young people: freedom, individuality and not afraid to express themselves.

In the entertainment industry, reality TV shows such as “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai” and “Anh trai say hi” continue to attract great attention.

At the same time, the game “Black Myth: Wukong” took the gaming market by storm when it sold 10 million copies in just the first 3 days of its launch, with searches for the game increasing 31.08 times compared to the previous quarter.

Sports saw an impressive increase in searches, especially for pickleball, a hybrid sport between tennis, table tennis and badminton.

Interest in pickleball increased 4.26 times compared to the previous quarter, thanks to celebrity endorsements and controversies over the game's uniform.
