Protect shrimp before the changing seasons, prepare for new farming season

Việt NamViệt Nam19/02/2024

The risk of disease increases during the changing seasons, so farmers in Ha Tinh are strengthening technical measures to protect farmed shrimp and prepare conditions for the new crop.

Mr. Tran Van An's family, residing in Xuan Hoa residential group, Loc Ha town (Loc Ha) is focusing on taking care of 600,000 white-leg shrimp.

Mr. An shared: “It will be about a month before the 2023 winter shrimp crop is sold. It is currently the transitional season, the weather is unusual, so the risk of disease in farmed shrimp is high. Therefore, we have to mobilize human resources to be on duty regularly to closely monitor environmental factors in the pond, ensuring that the indicators are within appropriate limits, paying special attention to factors such as PH, alkalinity, oxygen, toxic gases NO2, NH3... In addition, we carry out farming measures according to the recommendations of the industry and increase the resistance of shrimp by increasing food and vitamins. If all goes well, we can collect more than 16 tons of commercial shrimp by the end of the season, expected to earn more than 2.7 billion VND".

During the changing seasons, the weather is unusual, so there is a risk of disease outbreaks in shrimp.

At this time, Mr. Duong Quoc Khanh's family (Lien Ha village, Thach Ha commune, Ha Tinh city) is focusing on taking care of the shrimp that have been raised for 40 days in a net house. On the other hand, he hired workers to clean 4 ponds, install oxygen systems, and treat the water source to ensure it meets technical standards to prepare for raising 800,000 white-leg shrimp in early March.

Mr. Khanh said: “The spring-summer shrimp crop is the main crop of 2024, so my family is focusing all resources on implementation. In addition to selecting shrimp seed sources from reputable units, we cooperate with service providers to ensure quality feed sources and reserve large quantities of biological products, treatment products, and environmental improvement to be proactive in the farming process, striving for a successful crop."

Thach Ha district is also focusing on mobilizing farmers to actively apply winter shrimp farming measures, implement harvesting according to the seasonal schedule and prepare conditions to prepare for shrimp farming in the spring-summer crop of 2024.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duy - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thach Ha district, from March to the end of June is the time to plant spring-summer shrimp, including black tiger shrimp and white-leg shrimp. The district has developed a specific and suitable seasonal schedule for each locality. To achieve the highest efficiency, the professional sector has recommended that shrimp farming facilities and areas link up with reputable seed production facilities to have quality seeds. At the same time, organize production links, reduce intermediary stages in the supply of seeds, feed, and input materials to reduce costs; implement multi-stage farming processes and release large-sized seeds for commercial farming, thoroughly renovate farming ponds to eliminate pathogens in the ponds, manage pond environmental conditions and shrimp health regularly...

Mr. Duong Quoc Khanh's family (Thach Ha commune, Ha Tinh city) hired workers to renovate the pond, preparing to release a new batch of fish.

In recent years, the shrimp farming movement in Ha Tinh has developed strongly and brought high economic efficiency; the access and application of scientific and technical advances in production are increasingly of interest to people, which is a premise to promote the development of more effective and sustainable aquaculture production. Accordingly, in 2023, the total shrimp farming area in the province is 2,239 hectares. Of which: intensive and industrial farming is 629 hectares and semi-intensive and improved extensive farming is 1,610 hectares. Shrimp farming output reached 5,800 tons, reaching 101.84% of the plan, up 2% over the same period in 2022.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thuy - Head of Aquaculture Management Department (Ha Tinh Fisheries Sub-Department) said: "In 2024, the whole province aims to raise 2,250 hectares of shrimp of all kinds. Based on the direction of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the unit will strengthen inspection and control of the quality of input factors in aquaculture (breeds, feed, biological products, treatment products, environmental improvement of suppliers in the area), promptly detect and handle violations. At the same time, implement the plan for environmental monitoring and warning in brackish and salty shrimp farming; coordinate the implementation of State management of food safety in aquaculture".

Ha Tinh farmers proactively take measures to protect farmed shrimp during the changing seasons.

To maximize farming efficiency, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requires districts, towns and cities to focus on directing farmers to increase productivity per unit area by solutions such as: selecting quality shrimp seed sources, applying advanced farming processes; upgrading farming ponds to ensure technical requirements. In addition, localities need to organize guidance and recommendations on the use of good seeds, strictly control the quality of seeds, farming seasons, use safe feed and biological products; strengthen environmental management and disease prevention; strengthen community management of concentrated farming areas associated with chain production, have a unified consumption plan for the whole region to avoid traders forcing down prices...
