Many results achieved
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province has just held a conference to summarize the Project on Protecting and Promoting the Value of the Artistic Heritage of Bai Choi in the province for the period of 2019-2023. Reporting at the conference, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province said that in recent times, the work of protecting and promoting the value of the artistic heritage of Bai Choi has received the consensus and support of artisans and the community, the positive response of schools in the area, and at the same time, the masses have also enthusiastically participated in contributing to protecting and promoting the value of the artistic heritage of Bai Choi.

Accordingly, the propaganda and promotion of the value of the Bai Choi art heritage has been widely deployed in Thua Thien Hue province, bringing practical results. The Department of Culture and Sports has coordinated with the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the Folk Arts Association and the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to conduct research and inventory the Bai Choi art heritage to build a scientific dossier of the Bai Choi art heritage, guide the Department of Culture and Sports of districts, towns and cities to continue to research, collect, and inventory the Bai Choi melodies at risk of fading away and being lost, to develop a conservation plan suitable to the characteristics and identity of the Bai Choi art heritage of Thua Thien Hue.
Recognizing the importance of passing on cultural heritage to the younger generation, from 2019 to 2023, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has coordinated with the People's Committees of Huong Thuy town, Quang Dien and Nam Dong districts to organize 7 training courses on Bai Choi singing in the whole province. Along with helping music teachers, students and those who love the Bai Choi art heritage to gradually identify this unique heritage, during the training sessions, the artisans instructed teachers on how to sing, chant Bai Choi, Bai Choi performance skills, and how to beat clappers so that teachers can use them instead of an orchestra to accompany students when teaching them to sing/chant and perform Bai Choi.

In addition, at the training sessions, we will coordinate with local Bài Chòi clubs or artisans to exchange and practice right at the huts, creating an exciting atmosphere for the lessons. This is a new point compared to other types of cultural heritage. After completing the training course, teachers will integrate Bài Chòi heritage into the Music curriculum as well as extracurricular programs of schools to introduce and teach to students.
In recent times, the locality has continued to maintain and strengthen the activities of Bài Chòi clubs in the province with many forms and rich activities, in line with the current requirements of preserving and promoting the values of cultural heritage in general and Bài Chòi art heritage in particular. Bài Chòi art performance and exchange activities are also regularly organized, creating conditions for organizations, individuals and clubs to learn more deeply about the value of Bài Chòi art in Central Vietnam in artistic creation. Creating conditions for localities to meet, exchange, learn from experiences; promptly discover artistic talents to have a training plan to better serve the province's artistic activities. The activities have contributed to connecting the community, social exchange, popularizing Bài Chòi art for tourism, promoting local economic development.
In the work of compiling and publishing publications introducing and researching the Bai Choi art heritage, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province has also collected documents and artifacts in 9 districts, towns and Hue city with more than 300 folk songs and excerpts. An editorial board has been established to compile the publication "Hue Bai Choi Folk Songs" to introduce to readers folk songs often used by artists...
Need to create a spread for the heritage of Bài Chòi
Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province, said that although the implementation of the Project has achieved certain results, there are still many limitations and difficulties, such as: Maintaining a team of quality artisans working in the field of Bai Choi is posing many challenges as the team of artisans is getting older while the number of young artisans, students, and people who know how to sing Bai Choi is decreasing, leading to the risk of losing the Bai Choi art heritage; The performance environment for the Bai Choi heritage is not much, the majority of tourists have little knowledge about the Bai Choi heritage, and promotional programs are not widespread, so they have not really attracted many participants.

Most of the groups and clubs practicing folk Bài Chòi in the province operate voluntarily. Teaching activities in Bài Chòi clubs are still limited, mainly teaching singing between family members and villagers; Funding for activities to preserve and promote the value of Bài Chòi artistic heritage is still limited, mainly from the project implementation source and a small part from socialized sources...
According to the leader of the Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien Hue province, in the coming time, it is necessary to soon research and promulgate appropriate mechanisms to protect and promote the value of the folk heritage of Bai Choi, specify the preferential policies for artisans in this traditional art form, create conditions for the Department of Culture and Sports to advise the Provincial People's Committee on mechanisms and policies for the preservation and promotion of Bai Choi heritage in the locality. Especially, support funding for folk artisans, clubs, and localities to maintain regular performance activities on festivals and traditional New Year.
In addition, it is recommended that the State honor and award the titles of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist to outstanding artisans who have contributed to preserving and promoting the Bai Choi art heritage. Regularly participate in and organize training courses so that Bai Choi artisans and cultural managers have the opportunity to improve their performance skills, as well as exchange and learn management experiences between localities and between Bai Choi clubs...
Leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province commended individuals who have made many contributions to the work of protecting and promoting the value of the Bai Choi art heritage in the area.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the results achieved by the Project. That demonstrated the preservation and promotion of the value of Bai Choi heritage in the area.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, in the coming time, there should be calculations to bring Bài Chòi into tourism, serving tourists to create a spreading effect. Along with that, it is necessary to train the next generation to continue, promote the value as well as create more playgrounds and competitions related to Bài Chòi heritage.
