On the afternoon of March 28, news from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lai Chau province said that the Then Kin Pang festival - one of the unique cultural features of the White Thai ethnic group - will take place on April 6 and 7 in Khong Lao commune, Phong Tho district.
The festival is held on a provincial scale to honor Then beliefs and pray for favorable weather, bountiful crops, and a peaceful life for the people.

The 2025 Then Kin Pang Festival has the participation of a delegation from Kim Binh district, Yunnan province (China); representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Son La provinces and the host Lai Chau.
The opening ceremony with a traditional ritual at the Then house will take place at 7:30 a.m. on April 7, which is March 10, At Ty year (Khong Lao village, Khong Lao commune, Phong Tho district).
The rituals include: Then offering to open the festival and sanctify; incense offering - cleansing and removing bad luck; incense offering to make wishes - inviting Then, blessing and praying for luck; Then offering to pray for blessings and giving thanks.
Next, the festival opening ceremony will take place at 8:00 a.m. on April 7 at the Khong Lao commune cultural house. During the opening ceremony, there will be a water-sprinkling ritual and a welcoming art program.
Previously, the festival started on April 6 at the cultural house yard of Khong Lao commune, Tung Hang restaurant area, and Nam Lum stream water splashing area in Cang village.
Coming to the Then Kin Pang Festival 2025, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in folk games, enjoy traditional cuisine and learn about local culture through unique activities such as: En cay competition; To ma le; relay stilt walking; fishing and crossbow shooting; throwing con; blindfolded gong beating...
In addition, there are also competitions in traditional costumes, art exchange and xoè dance performance; competition in preserving traditional cultural values of the Thai people (spinning thread to weave fabric, brocade weaving, net weaving, "ao ho pang" performance (hair washing performance) and reenactment of the river life of the Thai people.
