Carry out Uncle Ho's advice

According to historical documents, the ancient owners of Tuyen Quang land were ethnic minorities. The statue of Uncle Ho with the ethnic people of Tuyen Quang province at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square (Tuyen Quang city) has images representing the 3 most typical ethnic groups of the province clearly depicted. The first is the Tay, this is the ethnic minority with the largest population in the province, the cultural symbol of the province. The second is the Dao, in Tuyen Quang there are 9 Dao branches. The third is the Cao Lan, this is the 3rd largest ethnic minority in the province, but the province has the largest number of Cao Lan people in the country.

In 1961, returning to visit the Party Committee and ethnic people of Tuyen Quang province, Uncle Ho advised, “On the issue of ethnicity, under the colonial and feudal regimes, the people of the highlands lived very hard lives. Today, the people of the highlands are free and equal, not oppressed and exploited as before. However, their material and cultural life has not improved much. That is because the leaders have not paid enough attention to the people of the highlands. On behalf of the Central and the Government, Uncle assigned the cadres from the province to the commune to make every effort to help the people of the highlands in all aspects.”

Following his advice, the Party Committee and people of all ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang province are always determined to preserve and promote their own unique national cultural identity. The province does not pursue a policy of economic development at all costs in exchange for the fading of national cultural identity and environmental pollution. Villages, historical and revolutionary relics, cultural relics, and scenic spots are still covered in the green color of primeval forests. Anyone who comes to Tan Trao (Son Duong), Kim Binh (Chiem Hoa) can still feel the wildness and romance of the old war zone. Tuyen Quang's forest coverage is over 65% of the natural land area, ranking among the top in the country.

Preserve and promote

Along with forest protection, the province has preserved and restored 660 historical, cultural and scenic relics, including 271 provincial relics, 182 national relics, 3 special national relics, and 1 national treasure in the area. At the same time, it has built and planned ethnic cultural villages, such as Tan Lap cultural tourism village of the Tay people in Tan Trao commune (Son Duong), Khau Trang cultural tourism village of the Dao Tien people in Hong Thai commune (Na Hang), Na Tong cultural tourism village of the Tay people in Thuong Lam commune, Khuoi Trang and Khuoi Cung cultural tourism villages of the Mong people in Xuan Lap commune (Lam Binh), and Gieng Tanh cultural tourism village of the Cao Lan people in Kim Phu commune (Tuyen Quang city).

Up to now, the whole province has 54 festivals, including 48 traditional festivals and 6 cultural festivals. The province has restored many traditional festivals such as the Long Tong and Com pounding festival of the Tay ethnic group, the Fire Jumping festival of the Pa Then ethnic group, the Dam May festival of the Dao Quan Trang ethnic group, the Gieng Thanh village communal house festival of the Cao Lan ethnic group, etc.

Localities restore the Long Tong Festival to become a typical tourism product (In photo: Chiem Hoa Long Tong Festival).

The locality considers equality, transparency, and democracy for all ethnic groups to be the same to create a “beautiful and colorful flower garden”. The province attaches importance to preserving and promoting the customs, practices, languages, costumes, architecture, and cuisine of each ethnic group. Currently, the locality has 17 national intangible cultural heritages and 1 representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity “Then practice of the Tay, Nung, and Thai people in Vietnam”.

In recent years, the province has identified “national cultural identity” as an important natural resource for economic and social development, especially tourism. Therefore, the architecture of stilt houses, yin-yang tiled houses, and earthen houses with walls have been preserved and restored. Artistic teams, Tinh lute clubs, Then singing of the Tay ethnic group; membrane dancing, Pao dung singing of the Dao ethnic group; Sinh ca singing of the Cao Lan ethnic group; Soong co singing of the San Diu ethnic group; and Khen dancing of the Mong ethnic group have been promoted. Many ethnic culinary dishes have been included in the service structure such as pickled pork, field fish sauce, smoked meat, dried buffalo, fern, banana salad, sour bamboo shoots, and bitter soup, which have impressed tourists.

Mr. Tran Hai Quang, Director of the Provincial Cultural Center, said that Tuyen Quang culture is "deeply ethnic". In addition to Tuyen Quang city, the remaining 6 districts have a large number of ethnic minorities living in villages, where customs and practices are still preserved and promoted.

The province currently has 2 People's Artisans, 11 Meritorious Artisans, 11 Meritorious Artists, most of whom are ethnic minorities. This affirms that the Party, State, and local authorities are very interested in and take care of the material and spiritual needs of ethnic minorities. Helping them to rise up in economic development, while still preserving the identity and soul of their ethnic group. Integrating but not dissolving, each ethnic group spreads its beauty to the public and society.
