Currently, the province's total herd of buffalo and cows is about 145,000, the pig herd is approximately 750,000, the poultry herd is about 15.7 million, including 13.8 million chickens. Due to the good implementation of disease prevention and control in the direction of socialization for many years, most livestock households have proactively vaccinated, so there have been no major outbreaks of disease in the province, posing a danger to the total herd.

Ensuring food supply at the end of the year

Mr. Do Kim Ngoc's family in Tan Phuong commune, Thanh Thuy district invested in raising chickens in a biosafety manner, and is expected to supply the market with about 15,000 meat chickens from now until Tet.

In 2023 and the first half of this year, the province's livestock industry achieved many results: Total production value of over 8 billion VND, growth rate of 5.81%, accounting for 57.71% in the internal structure of the agricultural sector. According to the forecast of the livestock and veterinary industry, with the current herd, it is completely possible to ensure the food needs of consumers in the province, while also supplying other provinces and cities across the country at the end of the year.

Having sold the pigs at the right time at a high price, after cleaning the barn and disinfecting the breeding area, Mr. Nguyen Van Soan's family in Van Lung commune, Phu Tho town proactively re-herded about 70 pigs, ensuring the time for selling at the end of the year and Tet. Mr. Soan said: "To ensure a healthy herd of pigs for sale in December, my family selected healthy pigs from our sows, fully vaccinated against epidemics and diseases. At the same time, we regularly monitor market information to adjust the appropriate breeding plan. According to the forecast of breeding experts at large breeding corporations, from now until Tet, the price of pigs is likely to remain at 63,000 - 65,000 VND/kg live weight. Thus, we, the breeders, still have a profit of about 25-30%, so we can rest assured to invest".

Mr. Nguyen Quang Hai in Trung Giap commune, Phu Ninh district is also preparing to raise about 10,000 chickens of various types, in time to supply the market at the end of the year. Mr. Hai shared: "At the end of the year, the demand for poultry, mainly chickens, is very high, especially chickens raised using biosafety methods, free-range. Therefore, my family has applied biosafety farming measures combined with full disease prevention. It is expected that this year, my family can earn over 350 million VND from raising meat and egg chickens."

According to Mr. Nguyen Tat Thanh - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, although the current price of animals and animal products is high, making farmers profitable, farmers should not increase the level of herd restoration and herd formation but should be cautious and raise animals according to the planning of each locality. At the same time, pay close attention to the prevention and control of dangerous diseases that are developing complicatedly such as African swine fever, avian influenza, etc.

The focus in the coming time of the Livestock sector is to promote propaganda and mobilization so that people can gradually switch to biosafety livestock farming; build disease-safe facilities, aiming to build disease-safe areas... Livestock and Veterinary Stations of districts closely monitor the livestock situation in the locality, promptly detect outbreaks to have early treatment plans, avoid widespread spread, causing damage to livestock farmers.
