Improving professional qualifications in testing and monitoring equipment quality to ensure safe operation at Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant

The courses took place in two sessions: from March 31 to April 11, with the participation of 14 trainees who are technical, inspection, and production quality control staff of the factory.

NSRP is a national key energy project, located in Nghi Son Economic Zone, Thanh Hoa. The plant has a processing capacity of 10 million tons of crude oil per year, providing main products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, LPG and polypropylene.

Since 2018, NSRP has played an important role in ensuring national energy security and promoting local economic development.

In the typical operating environment of petrochemical facilities, process equipment and piping systems are constantly exposed to factors such as high pressure, extreme temperatures, corrosive chemical environments and cyclic loading that can lead to fatigue damage in materials. These conditions can lead to common forms of damage such as surface cracking, localized corrosion, peeling of protective coatings, plastic deformation or leakage at welds and joints.

VT testing methods play a key role in early detection of signs of equipment deterioration, supporting technical assessment and timely maintenance decisions, thereby contributing to ensuring equipment safety, maintaining system reliability and optimizing operating costs.

Theoretical training at the factory office.

The training program for NSRP Company was built and developed based on the 2016 basic level project product on: " Building a program and documents for visual inspection methods of VT in accordance with international standards to meet the needs of domestic industrial inspection" chaired by MSc. Dang Thi Thu Hong. The program includes necessary theoretical and practical contents for the VT method.

During the course, students will learn about the operating principles and application scope of visual inspection methods in industrial practice. The course also introduces in detail the types of specialized equipment, technical standards and inspection procedures currently applied in the field of refining and petrochemicals. The teaching staff are experts (VT level III according to ASNT and SNT-TC-1A) with rich experience in the field of NDT and the oil and gas industry.

Practical guide to VT testing on weld configurations.

The practical part focuses on direct testing exercises on real specimens, helping students practice observation skills, identify defects and evaluate equipment condition. At the same time, students will be guided on how to prepare inspection reports, analyze results and propose solutions according to technical requirements. At the end of the program, students will participate in review and final assessment tests, which will serve as the basis for certification.

Students practice on specialized endoscopy equipment.

The training course not only helps improve the professional qualifications of the technical staff, but also demonstrates the commitment of NSRP Factory and NDE Center in maintaining standards of quality, safety and sustainable development in the maintenance of technological equipment of the Factory.

It is expected that in May 2025, the VT visual inspection training program will also be researched, supplemented, and developed by the NDE Center according to the standards and documents SNT-TC-1A, 2024 to train PTSC Quang Ngai Petroleum Services Joint Stock Company, a member of PTSC Corporation. Promoting the implementation of research results at all levels is one of the key tasks and breakthrough efforts of the Center in the current period when the requirement for autonomy is increasingly high for public service units./.
