Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Huu Duc, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Accounting Association, informed at the seminar
On July 10, Ho Chi Minh City Open University coordinated with professional organizations to organize a seminar on digital transformation, changes in the business environment and solutions to narrow the gap between training and practical requirements in the field of accounting and auditing. Representatives from universities in Ho Chi Minh City also participated in the seminar.
The report of the Ho Chi Minh City Accounting Association is based on the statistics of publicly available data of 135 university training institutions that provide accounting and auditing training nationwide and the survey results of 471 enterprises and 833 individuals working in the field of accounting and auditing in August and September 2023.
The results provide an overall picture of the accounting and auditing profession in the new context in terms of training, the impact of technological change, recruitment and employment.
The report presents 6 main contents. In the field of training, the whole country has 128 universities offering this major, accounting for 54% of the total number of universities in Vietnam with 92,187 students studying, accounting for 4.9% of the total number of university students nationwide. The teaching staff has not kept up with the training scale. The number of students/lecturer is 29.2% and the percentage of lecturers with a doctorate is 27.5%, still a significant gap compared to the average level of all universities (24.2 students/lecturer and 32.4% of lecturers with a doctorate).
There are 62 accredited training programs in the accounting and auditing group, accounting for 5.4% of the total number of accredited training programs of universities. This number is still modest compared to the number of training facilities of the group.
Regarding the impact of technology, 78.2% of businesses and 83.4% of individuals working in the accounting and auditing profession rate the impact of technology as very important. The technology trends that are considered to have the greatest impact include: Digitalization of documents and records, big data and analysis, digitalization of workflows and automation of work.
Recruitment demand in the accounting and auditing sector is still quite limited, although there is more optimism from medium and large-sized enterprises. However, new graduates still have difficulty finding jobs. The most common challenge for enterprises is that candidates do not meet professional requirements.
The report of the Ho Chi Minh City Accounting Association also mentioned the impact of changes in the working environment, the large gap between training and actual needs, and women having fewer opportunities for promotion than men.
