The toilet project in Ma Le is built with 12 compartments, divided into male and female areas with separate entrances, fully equipped with toilets, sinks, water supply and drainage systems, self-destructing systems, signs instructing how to use and wash hands properly.

This is one of 20 toilets that started construction from June to September, each project consists of 4-12 compartments, under the School Hygiene project implemented by Hope Fund in Dong Van district, Ha Giang province, with funding from Sanofi Vietnam, Enterogermina probiotic brand. The project also received support from FPT Long Chau and Vietnam Construction Consulting Corporation. The total project cost is more than 3.3 billion VND, of which sponsors contributed 2.67 billion VND, the rest was matched by the locality.

In addition to building according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training, the project also focuses on activities to raise awareness of maintaining and preserving general hygiene; guiding school hygiene practices through documents; organizing School Hygiene Festivals...

In addition, the units also supported additional water filtration tanks at some schools in Dong Van, helping to reduce concerns about unsafe water sources. It is estimated that nearly 5,000 students and teachers in the rocky plateau area benefited from the project's sanitation facilities.

According to the Hope Fund, the standard sanitation facilities, clean water systems and hygiene practice documents of the project will become models for localities to replicate and synchronize. From schools, the project hopes to change hygiene habits to families and communities.

"Access to better facilities will help raise awareness about hygiene and health for students. Moreover, clean toilets also help prevent diarrhea among students. We believe that students will not only raise awareness about hygiene, but also increase their awareness of environmental protection through this project," said Mr. Doak Kevin, General Director of Sanofi Vietnam Healthcare.

Previously, a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Dong Van district said that the quality of toilets here is still low. Schools in the district currently lack more than 100 toilets. In particular, at some schools, the auxiliary buildings are dilapidated or only temporarily built, without a self-destruct system, lack of water, and lack of areas for male and female students and teachers. This has significantly affected the quality of life and study of teachers and students.

"We accompany the project during the construction process, commit to guiding beneficiary schools and protecting the works well after they are put into operation," affirmed Mr. Le Quang Hien, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Dong Van district.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Anh, representative of the Hope Fund, said that the fund wishes to continue to accompany Dong Van district, especially the students of the rocky plateau, in upcoming projects such as building classrooms, boarding houses, kitchens, school nutrition, etc.

School sanitation is part of the School Light program, with the goal of eliminating degraded toilets. In 2022, the project was implemented in Van Ho district, Son La province and Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province with funding from Sanofi Vietnam and FPT Group. After that, 49 sanitation facilities were put into use, supporting 7,000 students and teachers at the schools.

With the hope that children in the highlands will have the conditions to ensure their health to study, the Hope Fund, with the support of the Enterogermina probiotic brand, has relaunched the School Hygiene project in Dong Van, Ha Giang. The project aims to build 20 standard toilets, support clean water filtration systems at some schools, and at the same time popularize good hygiene habits for students.
