Focus on applying digital technology to continue creating stable revenue sources

The Chairman of the Hanoi Journalists Association hopes that: Through the workshop, the Journalists Associations of provinces and cities along Route 6, and press agencies in the Cluster will have the opportunity to discuss, suggest, exchange experiences and propose ideas to all levels and functional sectors, in order to create the best conditions. From the opinions of the workshop, there will be appropriate policies and mechanisms for press agencies to develop, journalists to fulfill their political tasks well, and Journalists Associations at all levels to affirm their roles and positions in the new situation.

According to journalist Nguyen Minh Duc - Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi newspaper, Vice President of Hanoi Journalists Association, the issue of press economy is the activity that brings revenue, profit and ensures the operation and development of press agencies. Press economic activities are largely based on press products, media and advertising services. In recent years, press economy has played an increasingly important role when press agencies have to be financially independent.

Journalist Nguyen Minh Duc said: Following the trend of the times, in the future, press agencies will increasingly face many difficulties due to the large amount of digital advertising revenue flowing into cross-border social networking platforms, advertising and revenue from print newspapers are decreasing. Therefore, in the coming time, promoting the achievements that have been achieved, Hanoi Moi Newspaper will continue to research and find effective press economic development models, especially focusing on the application of digital technology and artificial intelligence to continue to create stable revenue sources to fulfill the functions and tasks of a local Party newspaper and develop sustainably.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Economic & Urban Newspaper Le Hoang Anh said that the press economy in the new period is facing many huge challenges, from the decline of traditional press to the rise of digital platforms.

However, this is also a time of many opportunities if press agencies know how to take advantage of and adapt to changes in the market. Developing new business models, applying advanced technology and increasing interaction with readers will be the key to sustainable development of the press in the future.

“At the same time, the Newspaper also promotes communication cooperation with organizations and businesses through coordinating the organization of events. Typically, recently, the Economic & Urban Newspaper annually organizes the Forum “Press – businesses accompanying for sustainable development” in the 3 regions of the North, Central and South. Along with that, it has expanded the fields of organizing seminars and talks such as “Building, developing tours – routes and special products of tourism in the Mekong Delta”, “Urban agriculture – Dual benefits for urban residents”, “Architectural – Interior solutions to improve the quality of living space for urban housing…” – Mr. Le Hoang Anh emphasized.

Sharing a discussion on enhancing the role of the Provincial Journalists Association in the journalism economy, journalist Doan Thi Phuong Hoa, Chief of Office of the Dien Bien Provincial Journalists Association, said that there needs to be a roadmap for innovation in journalism activities, so the Association and its members have an active responsibility to organize and create works.

A representative of the Dien Bien Provincial Journalists Association said that press agencies are currently facing the risk of a sharp decline in revenue, in the context that social networking platforms have taken away about 70% of the revenue of mainstream press. In addition, press agencies are facing a number of difficulties and obstacles in regulations on financial autonomy mechanisms of public service units.

“The development of the press economy requires a change in approach to avoid complicating and negativizing the issue. Innovation in the press and media economy is the key link to comprehensively innovate the press and media system in the digital context,” said journalist Doan Thi Phuong Hoa.

Speaking at the meeting and workshop, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi highly appreciated the achievements of the Journalists Association Emulation Clusters of provinces and cities along Route 6 in the past time. However, journalist Nguyen Duc Loi also requested that the associations at all levels in the Cluster when implementing the emulation movement need to have innovations, avoiding formalities. Members need to be the subjects of the emulation movements, and the associations at all levels need to come up with solutions so that members can be more active factors in carrying out tasks in the emulation movement.

In addition, the implementation of ethical regulations for journalists needs to be considered more specifically, especially the emulation and reward work needs to be more practical and effective, creating motivation to promote the participation of members in activities. In addition, it is necessary to mobilize members to participate in major central press awards, especially the National Press Award. Associations at all levels need to study so that localities can issue mechanisms and policies to encourage members in localities to participate in press awards.

The Journalists Association of 5 provinces and cities in the Emulation Cluster signed an emulation agreement for the year 2024 - 2025.

Regarding the activities of the emulation cluster, journalist Nguyen Duc Loi commented: There is still a lack of connection between the levels of the association in implementing the emulation content, there is still a disconnection and looseness that is not oriented towards the members. Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi suggested that the cluster can organize professional training and general training for members in the entire emulation cluster. In particular, the organization of professional seminars needs to have exchanges, with many new topics and discussions that need to be more practical and realistic.

Sharing about the issue of press development and economy, journalist Nguyen Duc Loi said that at the workshop, delegates shared many issues, including revenue from newspapers, electronic newspapers, etc., and ordering from press agencies. Many delegates spent time discussing solutions to improve the quality of press works; sharing successful experiences at their press agencies, etc.

Hanoi Journalists Association awarded the rotating flag of the task of Head of the Emulation Cluster of Journalists Associations of provinces and cities along Highway 6 in 2025 to Lai Chau Provincial Journalists Association.

Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi said that, amid the difficulties and problems in activities at the association level such as organizational structure, finance, headquarters, etc., the Journalists Association at all levels needs to innovate to affirm its necessity in the work of informing and propagating the policies of the Party, State and localities to the public.

Within the framework of the program, the Journalists Associations of 5 provinces and cities in the Emulation Cluster signed an emulation agreement for the year 2024 - 2025. In addition, the Hanoi Journalists Association handed over the rotating flag of the task of the head of the Emulation Cluster of Journalists Associations of provinces and cities along Route 6 in 2025 to the Lai Chau Provincial Journalists Association.
