Apple is said to equip fast wired charging technology with a capacity of 40W on the iPhone 16 Pro, higher than the current 27W of the iPhone 15 series.
According to IT Home (China), Apple will equip the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max duo with faster charging technology than previous versions, with capacities of 20W (MagSafe charging) and 40W (wired charging) respectively.
Currently, the iPhone 15 generation only supports fast wired charging at 27W when using a compatible charger, allowing the battery to be fully charged to 50% in 30 minutes. The maximum MagSafe charging capacity on the iPhone 15 series is 15W.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 16 series next September. |
If this rumor is accurate, the iPhone 16 Pro series will have significantly faster charging speeds, especially when using wired charging. However, the source also notes that the increased charging speed also comes from the larger battery capacity.
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple is adjusting the battery on the iPhone 16 generation to increase energy density. This means the device will have a larger battery capacity in the same size, or a smaller battery but the capacity will remain the same compared to the iPhone 15 generation.
To combat overheating, Kuo also said Apple will use stainless steel for the battery case. According to the analyst, stainless steel is less efficient at dissipating heat than aluminum, but this material is more durable, less prone to wear and tear, and easier to disassemble.
The change in iPhone battery replacement mechanism also comes from the European Union (EU) sustainability regulations. In 2024, the European Commission requires manufacturers to take more responsibility for electronic waste.
"This will help Apple comply with EU regulations on the ability to replace mobile phone batteries in the future," Kuo emphasized.
