Bloomberg sources revealed that the live translation feature will be included in an AirPods software update due out in late 2025. It is linked to Apple's upcoming iOS 19 operating system.

Apple rival Google has also equipped its Pixel Buds with translation capabilities for a few years now. Since 2020, “Apple” has also provided its own translation application for iPhone. However, this information still brings joy to the AirPods user community.
Bloomberg also explains how it works: when a Spanish speaker hears someone speaking in English, the iPhone will translate directly into Spanish and then send it to the AirPods, and vice versa.
This move by Apple is an effort to “overhaul” its software this year. The iPhone maker is preparing for the biggest “makeover” in the history of the iOS operating system, in addition to redesigning macOS, to welcome a new generation of users. Apple also upgraded translation technology in the iOS 19 update.
Apple has often added new features to AirPods through software updates, meaning users don’t have to buy new headphones. For example, in 2024, the company introduced a hearing-related option for the second-generation AirPods Pro, which included a hearing test without having to see a doctor.
The iPhone maker is still working on new AirPods hardware, including the third-generation AirPods Pro. There’s also a model with a built-in camera that uses AI to analyze its surroundings.
Last year, Apple also introduced new colors for AirPods Max and AirPods 4.
