DNVN - Pixelmator - the company with popular photo editing applications such as Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator, Photomator - has announced its decision to merge with Apple.
Pixelmator, based in Vilnius, Lithuania, owns popular photo editing apps such as Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS and Photomator. The deal will need to be approved by relevant regulatory authorities.
The company has developed a highly regarded suite of creative tools that competes with Adobe products while maintaining ease of use and optimal performance. Pixelmator apps are currently only available on Apple platforms, including Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
The Pixelmator team expressed excitement at being part of Apple, saying they were inspired by Apple and designed their products with a focus on design and user experience. They said the merger would help Pixelmator expand its reach to a larger audience and increase its impact on the global creative community.
Pixelmator claims that for current users, the apps won't change much, but there will be more exciting updates in the future.
Over the years, Pixelmator has become an integral part of the Apple ecosystem with apps like Pixelmator Pro and Photomator. These apps have also integrated many AI and machine learning features, notably the background removal tool and Super Resolution feature.
Pixelmator Pro is known as an easy-to-use professional photo editing software. Meanwhile, Photomator is an optimized photo editor developed for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Vision Pro.
Apple often buys promising companies but rarely discloses the details of those deals, most recently acquiring Dark Sky in 2020. Apple previously acquired Workflow in 2017 before introducing the Shortcuts app.
