The tropical depression strengthened into Typhoon Yagi on the evening of September 1, with a high possibility of entering the East Sea. This will be the strongest storm in the East Sea this year.
On the evening of September 1, a tropical depression in the eastern part of the central Philippines strengthened into a storm, internationally named Typhoon Yagi. If it enters the East Sea, Typhoon Yagi will become the third storm and the strongest storm in the East Sea so far this year.
On the evening of September 1, the Japan Meteorological Agency also confirmed the information and gave a forecast on the intensity and direction of storm Yagi.
The US Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) also said that the North East Sea region is likely to receive the strongest storm since Typhoon Koinu in September 2023. JTWC forecasts that this storm could reach an intensity of 120 knots (equivalent to a level 15 storm according to the typhoon scale used by Vietnam).
Meteorologists still warn of the risk of this storm moving westward during its movement, if the high pressure in China becomes stronger. The possibility of the storm entering the East Sea could be up to 80% and the possibility of affecting the Gulf of Tonkin is 10%.
