The elderly have parties of apple wine, corn wine, and cassava wine that make their lips fragrant. The young have traditional games that are lively and bustling. Boys and girls come and go to give love to each other. Therefore, spring is always joyful and full of love!
Festival of the Mong people
In the border region, there are many unique festivals. Ha Giang people often hold the Gau Tao festival from the 3rd to the 6th of January. Spring is bustling with the sound of the Khen resounding on the mountain top: "The Mong people sing together, someone's horse goes to the market. The Gau Tao festival is very crowded, there are many fun games, the flower-shaped umbrellas let the Khen sound resound far and wide...".
Gau Tao Festival is the biggest festival, with the largest number of Mong people participating. Gau Tao Festival is to thank heaven and earth, the mountain gods for blessing the village, helping the villagers overcome the harshness of the highlands. And it also means a festival of love songs on the mountains.
People chose a beautiful hill, convenient for travel, with a flat surface large enough for all residents in the area to gather there. The pole - a symbol of the strong survival of the Mong people on the barren rocky plateau - was erected, splendid and sacred.
After the ceremony, the festival goers enthusiastically participated in performances and competitions, some dancing with flutes, some dancing with sticks. There were throwing balls, spinning tops, cockfighting, nightingale fighting, horse racing, crossbow shooting… the singing and cheering echoed throughout the mountains and forests.
Spring on the border
During the spring festival, the Mong people dress beautifully. Children gather under the familiar old apricot and plum trees. Anyone who has traveled to the northern mountainous region will see in the villages, children playing the game of pushing tires on the road with sticks; or just using a water trough to the fields, children have created a game of water skiing.
One spring afternoon, while wandering around Ban Gioc waterfall, I happened to see children playing a game of pushing sticks. Very simple, but very touching.
Located on the border belt, Ban Gioc waterfall is one of the 10 most magnificent waterfalls in the world, and is located in an important position on our country's border. While the other side is developing with colorful lights and bustling people, this side is leisurely and peaceful for generations, on the land that our ancestors have preserved.
The afternoon in the border region often brings many emotions. A few rafts take tourists on a cruise on the river. On the shore, in the rice fields, children are playing a game of pushing sticks, their cheerful laughter makes people feel excited, affectionate and suddenly feel sorry for Vietnam.
I told myself, I must thank those innocent children, they will be the young generation to protect every inch of this land. The border areas always need hard-working people, innocent children clinging to the mountains and hills. They cling to the land and villages, protecting the borders of the Fatherland.
During the days of riding our motorbikes, we passed each milestone and counted each branch in the border area. Traveling between heaven and earth, we saw how beautiful our country is in spring!
On the roads around the mountains, couples ride side by side. It seems that spring is always bright and innocent in the mountains and hills of the border.
I have also experienced spring in Lung Cu. There is nothing more exciting than being in the homeland’s frontier on the first day of Tet, lying down listening to the rooster crowing loudly, in the distance the red flag fluttering on the high mountain.
My homeland, my country is so beautiful! That life, is the green spring in the borderland with every moment, every inch of peaceful land, every yellow mustard flower growing on dry rocks, every peach blossom full of pink. Go to feel grateful to those who have kept the homeland peaceful, to blend into the rhythm of the clouds and sky...
